Ask them for free sensors and installation since they screwed you over.

They lied to you the only difference is steel vs alloyed the steel wheel sensor has a different angle that’s why it can’t work but alloys has a 20 degree bend so the fit any alloyed

First offer from them was discounted TPMS sensors and free install. Second offer was free TPMS and install. Looks like it may all work out, thank you for helping!

My question is: If you buy new sensors instead of swapping out existing ones, do the new sensors need to be programmed in any way? If so, do all tire dealers have that capability?

Yes, they do need to be programmed to work with the specific car. I would think that every dealer service shop would know how to do it, but I can't say for sure.

Should have read these posts before buying 40 degree TPMS sensors for alloy rims. Styled steel rims require 40 degree and Alloy or steel rims require 20 degree TPMS sensors.

I think it’s time to get your wife a new haircut. These guys are either liars or tragically misinformed. The Taco TPMS work fine in the 4Runner pro rims. I have that set up.

It was leaking due to high neck angle. Tried the 180 rotation but it was too risky.

I have my old OR wheels on my 1st gen.

The TPMS sensors swapped directly over to the 17 inch Pro T4R wheels on the 3rd gen.

Tied several boat anchors to my truck to destroy MPG.

this is an only acceptable answer. hell, I'd want something more too because they tried to screw you. have the same rims on my truck, discount tire swapped them out from the stock ones and swapped the sensors.

Just bought my new Cement TRD Off-Road Access Cab. I am getting my stock wheels/tires replaced with the 17" TRD Pro wheels and BFG tires. The installer says that he can swap the TPMS sensors, but that he will have to re-program the sensors...and charge me $25 to do it. How could that be right?? How do the sensors know they are different wheels?? That makes no sense to me. Am I missing something?

Only thing I can think of is he's talking about having to reset the TPMS alarm to trigger the dashlight. You should be able to do that yourself with the button under the dash and procedure in the owners manual.

could be gouging you, IDK, i guess is could be based on the total amount you're paying. I supplied the rims, and bought tires at Discount Tire doing the same exact thing you're doing, and they didn't charge me for that.

    https://www.bridgestonetire.com/tre...ire-pressure-monitoring-system-how-tpms-works

    Tacomas have direct TPMS.

    https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=152&affiliate=FH3

So...I don't know that there is any programing required, but it seems like the extra work may warrant $25....for the whole truck (all 4 tires). If its per tire, well that sounds like you're being gouged.

should not have accepted that answer, they would have used the proper TPMS sensor if you threatened to walk out of the deal

Seems to me that you take the valve stem (it contains the TPMS sensor) out of existing wheel, and install it in the new wheel. That's 0 extra work, as new valve stems...or transfer of existing valve stems...would have to be installed in new wheels anyway. BTW...it is $25 for all (4) wheels.

    Too few to list.
Doesn't need reprogramming, your original sensors are already programmed to your truck. Your sensors doesn't know which wheel it's in. The wheels/tires can be sitting in your garage next to your truck within a certain distance and the truck will still read them.

Another tpms potential fiasco….. any help appreciated!
23 sr5 original wheels were steel, when I bought the truck it had black rhino wheels (17)
I don’t care for the 1.5” or so of tread sticking out so going with wheels identical to this post
I had local tire shop swap one wheel to my existing tires to see if it was what I wanted.
I see shop guy wander out to counter with sensor in his hand, apparently this sensor won’t work with my trd wheel. So my question is what is the part number of the sensor I need for my new wheels
Oem or aftermarket that seems to be dependable. I don’t know exact model number of my new wheels but assume I can get it if needed. help please!
