Yesssss OP. So happy when I find threads like this. Seeing someone that is building their truck based on specific needs is refreshing in the sea of "buy all the bolt on things to have an Instagram worthy truck" that sometimes plagues the "overlanding" community.

    Great build so far, OP.

Best bet for large videos is to upload them to YouTube and then post the links here.

I now have 12 months til my MT/ID summer 2019 Overlanding trip. This is where my Overlanding build takes a strange detour :)

I knew I wanted to update my stereo all along just did not know to what level. I began with the idea of a new head unit, door speakers, and an amplifier.

Based on my needs for a 2 week overlanding trip I decided to remove my rear seats, to build a platform to mount an ARB refrigerator and open up for gear storage.

Once everything was removed I was better able to visualize what the platform may look like, for my needs it would need to be at min 6" tall for clearance of other items. That was quite a bit of unused volume under the platform, I debated using it for storage but integrating access would be problematic with a refrigerator and gear sitting on top.

***Disclaimer*** This is where things start to go silly. I've got a year til my overlanding trip and I'm bored I need another project. Keep in mind everything I post next (from the last 6 months) will be temporary/modular installs. Strictly for fun if not academic, to learn something by doing something. Initially I thought I could integrate it into my Overland build but weight and size was prohibitive. Plus as you will see things got out of control. :) The "final" install will actually be coming out of my truck in the next month or so. ***Disclaimer***

Why not use this unusable space as a platform and a subwoofer enclosure? Off to SolidWorks to model a bunch of different ideas, this is what I ended up with.

ARB refrigerator platform subwoofer enclosure w/ amplifier, power distribution, and control rack:

    7/2018

*** mounting brackets utilizing existing threaded hole positions on the truck side and t-nuts on the box side

    *** (4) rear firing 8" subwoofers

Any schematics for how those 3 relays are wired up? I've never played with latching relays.

Where is your secondary battery mounted?

Behind the passenger seat, using a battery tray kit then fabricated a heavy duty retaining bar from flat bar and angle iron (bed liner), tray mounted to MDF board bolted through rear passenger seat mounting points. Rock solid mounting.

    7/2018

I'll work on a schematic of the relays. See below.

First real world test of the overlanding rig was a failure. I got trapped and had to call the wife to come bail me out. :frusty:

    micro-SHTF

    8/2018

*** why a failure? two key pieces of equipment not in the truck 1) chainsaw, 2) a tree strap/chain

Tree trunk at least 3ft in diameter at base.

Wife had to come pick me up so we could go get the chainsaw from the house. Chainsawed for 3 hours straight, afterwards all I needed was a strap so I could yank on the tree trunk with my winch cable. Didn't own any recovery gear at this point, FAILURE. Truck was stuck for 2 days until DOT could get an excavator out to pull tree off the grade. One way in, one way out, where I was at.

Sub a dub dub!!!!!! This is very interesting I really like the bed cage and tire gate since it gets the tire more inboard in the bed than hanging further off the rear.

How did you make those hinges for the tire gate??? I would like to see some more detailed photos of them. I am going to be making some swingout tool boxes and haven't figured out a sturdy hinge for it.

It's basically a super heavy duty piano hinge spaced out with multiple pins.

Spacing was super critical in the design.

With the bottom two pins (bolts) inserted into the gate side a helper has to hold the pins up while you move the hinge into alignment then they drop the pins. The top pin can be inserted last. Pin/bolt length is specific to the design. I used Solidworks to design the hinge which helped tremendously, it can be done on paper I'm sure.

I'll post some more close up shots of my SolidWorks model.

***The stand offs were 0.25" plate, the tubing was 1" (0.25" wall), super slow wire feed high heat penetrating welds maxed out my 120V welder capabilities.
