Hood Struts...?

I was looking at the Redline's on Amazon a few months ago and I think someone in the Q&A section mentioned welding them in

 

For all you that have em installed, how high is the opening compare to the stock hood prop?

 

I can measure mine, but it seems pretty close to stock. On my other vehicles, there were alternate places you could put them for higher. Since our hood is solid stone, I went with stock and haven't had any spatial issues yet. I also don't miss working around the hood prop.

 

Redline's are best and very easy to install just need a darn good long handled Rivet gun and measure twice and again, I followed directions and my hood opens as far as it was on stock rod and that is fine. there are not any "alternative" mounting holes. as for drill bit small step drill or take electrical tape and wrap it very tight 1/4 inch up from the tip going around the bit multiple times to make a "stop"

 

Why? In order for pop-rivets to fit correctly the diameter of the hole is critical. Use the proper size fractional drill bit and you don't have to worry about over-sizing or mishaping the hole; easy to do with a stepped bit at an awkward angle.

 

Off topic, but what battery do you have installed??

Nice. That's another issue I had, my accessories mount in the usual location, right behind the battery, seems like that prop would get in the way.

 

Well, to be fair, I'll be installing a compressor soon on the passenger side behind the airbox, so that may be my first issue with those. I'll keep you posted.

 

Word. Honestly, it seems like u could use the hood prop to open the hood all the way, then let the gas shock fully expand and slide the gas shock to whatever mounting location u wanted and still have it work out okay.

 

If I had one; I tossed it out a few months ago while cleaning out the garage. I'll figure something out if it becomes too much hassle and have to disconnect the strut.

 

Had no issues making the proper sized hole with a stepped bit and it further prevents you potentially popping through into the actual top layer of the hood.

Step bit is self starting and doesn't require a pilot hole. Also reduces the risk of the bit snagging, especially on thin metal panels.

But, whatever works.

 

Too bad these aren't currently on sale otherwise I'd be on their website ordering right now.

Stock battery tray and hold downs?

 

Nope, I modified the holder and bought a replacement tray from the auto parts store.

 

Redline struts and then I put on a cooling panel to hold my tools...
Super awesome product...

Anyone have those no drill SOKIETECH hood struts? I watched a YouTube video on the install, looks to open the hood way more than the prop rod. And it was a no drill system.
I have had Redline hood struts on a Mustang I had a few years back, they worked great, just looking for another option besides those if possible.
