Welp guys and gals.....If it rains hard Thursday day I wont be doing the run this time around. I am old and have wheeled more then half my life. One thing that is NOT fun for me (cause Ive done it literally THOUSANDS of times) is wheel for days in slick mud. I have been and seen these roads personally, and do not want to do them just after a HEAVY rain. I love water crossings, 5-8 rated trails, rocky gardens, 3-pt thousand foot switchbacks, 4ft ruts etc....just about it all! What I wont do is wheel in muddy shit for days. Period. :anonymous:

    :crapstorm:

I stress HEAVY cause we all know this AZ desert soaks all this water up quick! That being said, I went out to Castle hot springs Sunday and the mud was Satan. Slick as shit and it hadn't rained in DAYS none-the-less literally on my 4 hour drive to get there~ The ground is saturated already and I got a feeling this is slick snotty mud is not what I would want to be in just after a rain.

Just giving all you AWESOME folks a heads up on where I am at......Plus Gloria my DD, I am a single father of (2) young boys, run a business etc....need to make sure what and when I do this, it is worth the risk and joy!

I'm praying for "sprinkly" rain on Thursday!o_O :annoyed:

According to the weather forecasts available now it looks like rain in most areas on Thursday and then rain and afternoon snow for Sierra Vista, Sonoita San Manuel and Globe on Friday. I'd say for a certainty that its going to be a wet weekend.

Just out of curiosity, is there anyone else that may bail due to weather? Just checking...

You know I'm still in. Can;t be any worse than the New Years trip and that wasn't really that bad.

I hate to be that guy...but the last few times I said " No matter what....rain or shine!" and it rained.....it wasnt fun for me. My personal experience tells me I know exactly what i'd be in for if it rains HEAVY. For me, Thursday morning to early afternoon will tell me all I need to know. I will be packed and ready to go hoping the rain isnt that bad! Bam!

Totally get it man. What’s fun and exciting for some, is the opposite for others. No judging here. Let’s hope the weather guys are wrong this go around.

Globe has a winter storm warning going on, guess the highway between there and Superior is a mess.

I'm still planning on going, going to call my ol man and see if hes still down because of how cold its going to be at night. I don't want to bail but I'm not sure if I'm ready for nights in the 20's. Maybe I'll just buy another sleeping bag to layer.

That's what I do. I have my large Tepui bag in the tent and another standard bag that I unzip and use as a comforter on top of that. If it's still really cold, I keep an actual king size comforter in the back of the cab that the pooch lays on most of the time.

Oof, highs in the mid 30s, with snow in the forecast, during the day and an overnight low of 20 in Sonoita Friday night. Likely we will be camping in that area Friday night, depending on how quickly we are able to move thru there. Thursday afternoon/night is the only time calling for rain right now. After Friday, it should be sunny skies and warming up a little. Bring your warm gear!

I can tell you there was plenty laying around. Only problem is it’s all going to be soaked/frozen. Everybody should bring some.
