My battery has been struggling the past couple weeks. Have had to bump start it a few times. The dealer is telling me I have to leave the truck for the day for them to test it.

I went out and started it to check out a new fusion dashboard, it cranked ok but did have a subtle sluggishness.

My meter read 9.2 volts right after I started it and then shut it down and sat with my phone plugged into the cigarette lighter outlet for approx 5 min. No headlights, had the head unit screen off, no hvac on etc.

Is it really necessary to have to leave it at the dealer to test?

They should be able to load test it without having to leave your truck.

    That’s what I thought.

Definitely, but isn’t it covered under warranty, or do they prorate it?

If it's a 2016 I'd be happy it got me this far. You may be able to get the dealer to replace it, but I'd just get something better and not worry about it for a while.

As long as you are under 3/36 your battery is covered.

I’d love to but I still need to upgrade my tray and hold down for a real upgrade.

Also if the battery dies after dealer hours you can buy one in an emergency and send Toyota the receipt for reimbursement

However, you cannot go buy some $600 Battery and expect reimbursement, it would only be for an equivalent replacement.

My battery only lasted about a 1.5 years and was covered under warranty. The replacement lasted about the same but was out of warranty. I just upgraded to a Northstar 31m on a group buy.

Well Damn! That figures. The battery in my 2nd gen lasted around 2 years. Had just replaced it with a gold diehard 6 most before it was totalled. I'm assuming about the same for the 3rd gen battery. A man has to know his limitations...lol. thanks again, Shaker.

Are these trucks that hard on batteries?

Factory battery in my 2012 Altima coupe lasted 4 years.

I put a Advance Auto Parts Silver Series in my 2000 Jeep in 2011. A couple days before hurricane Matthew rolled thru in 2016 I took it to Advance to have it tested, dude said it was fine. I told him it was 5 years old and he said I'll sell you one, but it's fine. I replaced it the next year before Irma visited.

It lasted 6 years before it showed signs of turning over slow. The Jeep had zero electric gadgets, hell it didn't even have AC.
