I'm been in despite need for a roof for 10 yrs now. Have a single layer of 3tab. Was thinking of just going over this layer while I was still mobile. And at my age, health, wasnt to concern about the 25% life span shortage of the new roof.
Done a few roofs in my days. Ex in laws side of the family where all roofers, how I learned let alone got side jobs from it.

These days, just getting material up there would kill me!

    3 problems there chief..

    1. CV Axles: It's pretty much RCVs or nothing
    2. Front Diff: Don't even bother with the stock front open diff, stock spider gears are rather weak. ARB puts some crazy strong spider gears in their lockers, but a 7.5" 23spline front diff on 37s is asking for trouble.
    3. Steering: First gens maybe have stronger TREs compared to the 2nd and 3rd Gens, but the rack is the weak point then and that's a bit of pricey part to replace.

Personally, I would just save your pennies for SAS. You'll be much happier with beefy axles and big ass tires.

Yeah, its easy for me to say when its not my money on the line, but buy once cry once. I will say, if you live longer than you think, needing a roof in your 80's when youre on a fixed income may be worse for you in the long run. But life/financial advice is not my area of expertise lol

I've seen this one, my buddy and I were trying to find some button up Toyota service tech shirts that we could cut the sleeves off of and rock when we wheeled together. The search continues.

Haven’t even got there yet. Making sure the motor will work.

Suspension is all hokie rigged though so I’ll probably move the front axle forward some but probably still be under 100”. Going to stick with wrangler springs for now. I’d like to stretch the rear but the gas tank sits right behind the axle... need the back seat otherwise a fuel cell would be nice.

Lots of stuff needs to be done, it’s turning out to be a much bigger job then I initially thought. But that’s life when working on wheelers.

The one thing I've learned about most inspectors is nothing perfect In their eyes. They can find a flaw in almost anything, And they forget there sapost to in force code not quality control.
