Favorite Whiskey?

I bought the Clyde Mays after watching a Youtube video by I'ts a Bourbon Night. Best 50 Bourbons under $50. The Clyde May's did quite well.

I'm a big fan of Elijah Craig's barrel proof...better than Booker's imo

 

Love grabbing one of my bottles down and noticing there’s barely any left and no real recollection of drinking that much. Unfortunately it’s not because I drank it, it’s because my brother loves to chug straight from the bottle whatever he can get his hands on. Hence why I keep all the good stuff in the back (overhead storage). Got to love family...

Oh yeah I'm sure an uniformed person could or would pay that. Maybe even somebody with some knowledge that had never seen a bottle before and just really wanted it. Beyond being prickish, I view what this liquor store and some people on the secondary market are doing as being unethical and I'd almost say immoral. I understand if you have something rare, that many people want and you want to make a buck but to price gouge 2,3,400% or more seems a bit outrageous to me. At the end of the day its just delicious booze that is meant to be drank.

Well, luckily with the whiskey boom over the last decade or so I'm sure distilleries have been ramping up production into barrels. In 10-20 years the craze will have probably moved on to infused vodkas or something. Sooooo hopefully we'll be sipping on 15yr old barrel strength bourbon at bargain basement prices!

I was very surprised how much I liked the ECBP the first time I had it.

 

My guess is rum or armangac/cognac. Either way, I can't wait for the whiskey bubble to burst.

 

Or possibly tequila?!

Except here in Alabama according to the workers in the Liquor section. Went by yesterday and it's a totally separate section outside the main store here. You can go in and look around, just can't purchase without a membership. Supposedly an ABC rule they have to follow to be able to sell liquor here. Who knows, the laws are so screwy it's hard to keep track. We're so bass-ackwards about so many things.

No skin off my back since the prices on what little they had were at best a dollar or two less than the ABC store, literally.

I did however grab another Angel's Envy, some OGD 114 and an Evan Williams BiB at various other stores. The Angels' Envy seems to be drying up around here, so when I saw the last bottle on the shelf at retail I snagged it. Easy drinker for sure.

 

Hard to beat OGD 114 for the price.

 

Won't be cognac. Cognac has to be made from very specific grape variety and they are currently running into serious problems growing it due to changing climate. So much so they're trying to expand the definition of cognac, otherwise the whole drink might disappear. Armangac maybe, but I think gin is more likely imo.

 

Definitely, but I was really surprised at how much I liked the EW for what it costs. It's a solid drink. Nothing crazy or complex, just a nice bourbon.

 

I'll have to try the Even Williams BiB. I have the Single Barrel. Quite nice!

 

That's probably gonna be my next EW purchase. The BiB was like $14.99 I think.

 

I forget what I paid for the SB but it wasn't much. It's a solid daily drinker for sure.

 

Aside from living in Alabama in the late 70's for a few years (I was +/- 10 yrs old) and a short time during my army days in S. Carolina and Georgia, I've lived here in California. I always forget, or just don't know about, the crazy-weird (to me) alcohol laws of some other states.

I do remember going on beer runs to a wet county with my Dad in Alabama as we lived in a dry county. I'm traveling to Ohio for work next week and thought this would be a good opportunity to check out local liquor stores to see if there is anything that I can't find here. In my research of stores near where I'm staying I found out Ohio has state controls in place, ABC stores and other shenanigans I don't understand. Seems likely I won't be finding anything I can't get here after all.

 

Just be glad you have alcohol in your Costco. Utah sucks. That is all.
