Did you happen to contact Bilstein about this issue? I just had the 5160s installed the other day. They were a bitch to compress by hand. If they didnt rebound, I would definitely call them.

That's interesting cause I had no problem compressing my 5160 and I'm no body builder.

I’ve contacted Bilstein and they said that it isn’t normal.

For the non defective damper, it is not too difficult for me to compress and I’m a scrawny dude. Still need two hands though.

    Any updates?

Currently on 5100/888 springs & 5160/Dakar mediums with steel CBI bumper. Front is sagging but it’s not that bad.

Thinking of going 6112 with 700 on 5th or even 6th perch both sides and 1/4” driver lean spacer

I wonder if you can go with a slightly longer coil, like a 15". That way, you can set the perch springs lower to benefit from shock travel while still having lift from the coil.

    Has anyone done this process?

Finally got most of mine installed over the weekend. Still have to do the rear shocks (was missing parts) and the uca's (because I gave up on trying to get the damn bolt out and was running out of time).

here is what it looks like right now. Did 2nd gen 6112's on 5th notch with 1/4" spacer on driver side with OME light duty leaf pack (elo95r). Eventually jca uca's and 5160's will be installed. After all said and done, gained (right now) 3.25" up front and 2.75" in rear.

(and yes, my truck needs a bath lol)

Right now i'm super happy with it. Rides nice and soaks up bumps pretty good.

Before I forget, I haven't been able to really find defined answers, but which bolts need to be re-torqued and after how many miles should I re-torgue them?

Yeah those through bolts are hard to wiggle out. If you were in CO, I would have been more than happy to help out. The driver side was easier than the passenger. I don't know the engine bay layout on 3rd gens, but I'm sure you will still need to have some sort of pry bar to divert the through bolt from the metal lining while punching out the bolt from the other side.

Truly, what ever bolts you've undone require a re-torque after 100 miles (on road) or immediately after wheeling off-road post-install. Pay close attention to the coil bucket bolts, front shock bolts (attached to the LCA), LCA knuckle bolts (if you touched them), and those through bolts for your UCAs.

I didn't even attempt the passenger side. I bent the sheet metal out of the way on the driver side, but there is a ridge in the sheet metal that the bolt head keeps hitting and I feel it needs to be shaved down or I will have to use a hammer and punch to get it out. The ridge is too high for me to really be able to bend it out of the way. I am starting to think there is a slight difference between the '16's and '17's (which I got) 'cause all the videos I watched makes it look so simple lol

Thanks. I'll re-torque every bolt I removed after 100 miles to play it safe.

@ratcityrain Lemme know if you work on your UCAs through PM! I'll send you my number there to try and walk you through it via MMS pictures. I initially struggled with mine until I had my wife give me simple pointers (felt like a dumbass afterwards, haha).

Awesome thanks. I'll maybe make another attempt this weekend, but will keep you posted as I get closer. I do think a second hand will be helpful so I will enlist my wife to help lol

Pretty much same on both sides. Had to bend it from under hood and under truck.

The passenger side is much easier and requires literally less bending. The driver though my god do i agree is it hell. typically smacking it with a punch when removing helps, but reinstalling ive had luck with removing the battery quickly and that gives me enough room to smack it back in.
