First time at Windrock over the weekend. Place is awesome.

 

Drove Hollister for the first time ever, having ridden there many times on my KTM. Surprisingly fun! Much better than the bike version.

Found myself on a few of the diamonds by accident... no joke in the muddy sections! Had one major hillclimb I couldn't make without the winch.

I have to say, having a winch on the vehicle makes it feel a lot less sketchy to be trying certain trails... TBD whether that's actually a good thing!

 

Cleghorn Wilderness today- near 29 Palms CA. Super Snow Moon rising in the distance, too.

We don't have much in Lil Rhody, power lines it is.

 

Just wanted to share a photos two weeks ago before I traded my 17 TRD sport to the pro. My family went up to South Lake Tahoe for a weekend get away and we got stranded an extra day due to white out conditions and avalanche control. It was my first experience with a blizzard and I’ve learned a lot from it.

I have played with it a lot on random sections, but I have never used it to "self-recover" on a gnarly steep trail I couldn't get up without it. My main reason why: on the few occasions where I have used it when stuck (mostly flat boggy sections) it has had mixed results, and once actually dug me to above my axles and then just crapped out. Lol. Not great. On really steep sections I think it's mostly line selection, and if I'm able to get the right line with the right momentum the incredible abilities of the truck + electronics get me up. If I truly mess up the line selection at a critical point on the trail (e.g. deep ruts, off-camber turns, all at high degrees of steepness) no amount of electronic smarts can save me.

At least, that's my logic! But I'd be very interested to hear from folks with crawl control that have used it outside of glorified test scenarios...

 

Your experience with Crawl Control isn't the first I've read about. I wonder if it is really more beneficial in sand than anything else. All the videos I've ever seen were in sand/dirt, never mud/bogs.

Looking to see who’s used it and in what scenarios and what was the outcome?

I’ve had two situations I could’ve used/tried it, but forgot I even had it.

 

Apparently my angle of departure ain't good enough... time for an off road steel bumper.

 

This year, I actually used it to get me up a deep rutted mogul section that last year I had to use the locker on to get up. The locker worked just as well, and I knew it would work again in this area, but I wanted to test out the crawl control for the first time, and I have to say it did great! got me up without the use of the locker....I was impressed.

 

Damage is just an opportunity for upgrades.

 

I think MTS is doing the work (adjustable A-TRAC) and CRAWL is like a creeping cruise control so you don't use too much accelerator (spinning tires is bad) and only need to steer.
