GSP is half his age so gotta hold her back.
He's my fourth Chesapeake. Best dog I've ever had. Here are a couple shots of him in his younger days.

So this guy a few weeks ago got the best of me...
He was sleeping right there and I had a cup of hot chocolate.... anyway, I fell asleep with the cup in my hand and when I woke up, he had almost got to the bottom of the cup, using the slowest dog drink action I have ever seen. I guess he didn't want to wake me up and that was the last hot chocolate in the house. He had a guilty, but worth it look on his face...

I figured this thread might be a good place to ask. I have been researching dogs like crazy, too much, but have determined that most of the larger/giant dog breeds seem to be lower energy indoors. I’ve changed my mind several times on what might work for us. I’m likley overthinking this.

Prior to going into the military many years ago, we always owned German Shepherds and English Setters (was a huge quail hunter). I’m looking for a larger dog inside that will be low energy yet still guard my family, not bite everyone that comes in the door, and serve as a therapy dog. The dog will need to be willing to stay close for therapy purposes and not be aloof. We are looking at a Leonberger now but would welcome any other suggestions. Yes, I know that’s a huge dog but he will have plenty of room inside. Thanks! :)

Lab mix mutt from the pound. Best dogs I've ever seen, come in all sizes, smart, sweet, and have a variety of options.

    Mine had cupholders.

English Mastiff sounds like it would fit the requirements as well. But could eat you out of house and home, lol. I'd caution having any dog with the mindset of protection. It comes with great responsibility. Sounds like you're just looking for a gentle dog with an intimating appearance which I think is a great way to go. I met a leonberger in a dog class, if you're ok with all the hair, I think they're great dogs.

Thanks. This is one reason why I ruled out my beloved German Sheps. Most of mine always tended to bite first and ask questions later, yet some not quite as much as others. The hair from the Leongerger is the biggest issue.

Also Greyhounds are sweet dogs and can be nice house pups, if you would like a dog that would be an inside dog.
Yes they are runners/active but their temperament enables them to be chill companions. I can say this as I have seen it first hand. Sweet sweet dogs.

Jelly and Chance would love that. There are some videos of Plummer Terriers in the UK ratting. They're all business.
