I am running a smittybilt who everyone claims is garbage. Only owned it for a year now but so far has served me well. Big thing about any of the pieces of equipment we use is make sure they get used! I've seen e-locker actuators fail/stick/corrode because they haven't been used. Same with winches. I try to use all my things at least twice a month, just to test them, and to keep them moving. So IMO either brand will be okay as long as it gets used enough.

    '

I am running this same setup and have been very happy with it. I don't even let the switch get activated till the key is in IGN state, and then need to flip the switch to activate the winch. Worse comes to worse, I bypass the isolator if it fails. I rather have some extra protection against a runaway winch or fires for piece of mind.

Go through the process of engaging 4wd, engaging 4 low, and locking it up once or twice a month. I feel you will have better long term results by doing this, and you will be able to find an issue before you need it and don't have it. Same idea for the winch.

This. Always a risk, and you likely will never do any true exploring with a mindset that worries about pinstripes.

let me ask this. I've owned my truck for 3 years and i've never buffed and gotten rid of any real stripes. I've washed it after trips and what not, but nothing like detailing.

Is there ever a time to buff and wax and polish your truck? For me, It's always "meh, it'll get scratched anyways" lol

I still like having it as clean as can be, and even though the scratches were from fun times, it doesn't mean they don't bother me. Also my biggest one is from an anonymous parking lot asshole.

that's annoying, but such is life sometimes. The only time i really wash my truck is after trips or if it's really really muddy. I think i'm slacking lol

It's just nuts how pretty it is when my super white is all buffed and detailed. Also I think its just me, but IMHO clean cars/trucks go faster.

@V5ioV and I were just talking about this, ha. I have been wanting to get an awesome buff/claybar detail done and just maintain it. Still haven't gotten it done though because like you said, I just scratch it up again. One day maybe.

Maybe? The problem for me is that my starter is connected to about 12' of wire! So I'd need a fuse that can handle a starter, which is damned close to a dead short. I've never heard of a way to fuse the starter. @6 gearT444E @HolyHandGrenade any thoughts?

For my winch I have a 500A (700A surge) Blue Sea switch on the way, which I'll default to leaving in the OFF position unless I need the winch, for exactly the reason @Subway4X4 mentioned: high power devices don't need to be energized and submerged. Everything else is behind a circuit breaker and and fuse (except the OBA, which only has a breaker).
