How much drop

Hey guys i am finally replacing the hitch on my truck(previous owner decided to remove it before they traded it in). How much of a drop will i need for my 6" fabtech?

 

so nobody tows with a 6" lift?

 

I think there are varied answers for this... It really depends on the hight of your trailer and how level you want it to sit. I would measure your truck backed up next to the trailer you will be towing most... then measure the difference between the 2 and it should give you how long of a drop you'll need?

 

Ya thats what i was planning on doing i was just hoping to get off easy. haha. and 6" would be the initial thought but then if you think about it, most stock trucks use between a 2 and 3" drop.

 

Actually could someone runout and tell me how far it is from the bottom of the bumper to the middle of the receiver?

 

I was thinking youll need an 8'' but i could be completely wrong.

Thats what i was thinking too. I saw somewhere on here that someone with a 3" is using a 5 or 6"

Well heres the problem. I dont have a hitch on my truck yet. lol But the i am buying a brand new drawtite hitch for 100 tomorrow and the lady used to own a truck accessory store and has a bunch of drops but i dont want to tell her to bring one with her if its not going to work.

Haha. The only reason i am wanting to find out is that she offered the drop and ball for only 20 extra. And i know those things are expensive.

 

I have a 3" drop on mine and it works good for the trailer I use. i would assume that you could just get a 6" and it would be pretty damn close.

 

Ok, so what does everyone think, 120 for a brand new drawtite hitch and a drop with a ball, that a good deal?

I use a 3/4" rise to pull my boat.

 

Isnt your truck a 5 lug tho? So it is going to sit a little bit lower.
