I was just looking at that the other day. I've never been, but it looks/sounds like fun. Is it worth camping out? Or, can a guy show up on the last day, see everything and maybe snag some deals on gear?

I would say its not worth it unless you want to take some kinda basic to intermediate classes. My opinion is the talks are kind of self-serving (look at all the cool shit ive done) or trying to sell you something and the trail runs are a little overpopulated. Dont get me wrong, we have a pretty good time drinking and fucking around, but weve been going for 4 years and dont really interact with most of the rest of the crowd. If you want to go to some of the classes and party with off roaders until 1am its pretty fun. Personally, im going to try to make it to the one in Vancouver or Montana this year just to switch things up.

Sam did a great job on summing this up. There are some good gear discounts at some vendors but they may be out of inventory by Saturday evening if the prices are good. I purchased a Tire Table last year for 33% off but his inventory was getting low and down to one color.

I would have opted for the Can one too but I/m working that weekend. Therefor, thinking about a week or so trip from Victoria to Banff in July.

Was thinking of going to the Montana one this year but we’ll be in Montana just a couple weeks before that so might be a bit much to drive back out.

'Preciate the input. Still, might go take a peak. Could take Friday off, hike Colchuck Lake and make it down early afternoon to check out gear and rigs.
Figure a hike will make it worth the drive if the rally is a let down.

Duuuude. Epic. My first time there was early spring last year. I didn’t go past the end of the lake where the trail first breaks through as it started raining. Is that spot doable for a day hike? That’s leading into the Enchantments, yeah?

It’s doable. Aasgard is steeeeep so give yourself enough time to maybe catch a breather at the lake.

Question for you local Seattle area folks.

    1. I could use some affordable recommendations for getting a set of sliders welded on. I'll probably go with the trailgear ones so the plates just need welded to the frame.

    2. Any suggestions on wheel/tire mounting and balancing? My local Firestone quoted me around $120 and couldn't guarantee my brand new SCS wheels wouldn't get damaged in the process.

FYI, I live downtown so I'm pretty central to most areas, but of course the closer, the better.

@JimSnell could help you with your sliders. I go to Discount Tire for my tire needs, I just had a set of SCS wheels mounted on new tires and installed there and had no issues.

I used Pep boys down in SODO to mount my SCS wheels and no damage found. Cost me $60.

I'm a good month out on the sliders I sell right now. PM me for a price if you're interested. I include the install in the price.

It's doable as a day hike. Hell, people thru-hike it (it's called the death march). We had a permit so we base camped at Colchuck and day hiked into the upper enchantments. There are spots to filter water climbing Aasgard. It's steep and either boulders or lose kitty litter. Fun though!

Too cool! The last mile up to the lake wasn't a picnic, so I can only imagine how difficult getting to the top of the Aasgard will be. Maybe I can hire a Sherpa to haul my fat ass up there. :turtleride:

Yeah. Roots, rocks, and steep. I got to do the last two miles twice... Went back to get the overnight pack of someone in our group that was struggling. The whiskey tasted extra good that night.
