Just go buy some bear spray. Same stuff, just more potent.

I live in a state in the US where I can buy a gun. :p I just don't understand the logic behind banning pepper spray.

It's Canada. Anything used to inflict pain on another human being is banned.

Shit, I'd be surprised if they banned Just for Laughs in Montreal except that...it's in Montreal and god forbid we piss the french off.

It can be lethal, even if used properly.
It's BS that you can't defend yourself in Canada. No guns, no pepper spray, no hope. Criminals have all the power:(

At least the anti-gun argument has some merit, whether I agree with it or not.

Pepper spray though? I just can't get over that. I suppose it can be lethal, but I suspect no more often than my fists, and definitely less lethal than a knife!

It just seems like it takes away one of the few defenses for a smaller woman against a mugger that isn't a gun... And makes physical size more important!

I mean the typical anti-gun arguments sound ludicrous applied to pepper spray:
What if the kids find your pepper spray? The little turds will be uncomfortable...
What about a lunatic with pepper spray? People will be uncomfortable...
What if a criminal gets ahold of your pepper spray? You'll be uncomfortable...

What are you going to do, outlaw fists and feet? I suspect many more people are killed from getting kicked in the head in a barfight than friggin pepper spray!

Damn French didn't read the label and kept mistaking it for some sort of seasoning, they got tired of giving free health care to idiots

none of the anti's arguements hold water with guns or pepper spray. A properly trained, law abiding citizen with a gun is better than any law. Will there be accidents? Yes, far less than the anti's would have you believe. Children find guns? Yes, only from negligent parents/owners.
Anti's use fear to push their agendas. When faced with facts, they have ZERO footing.
Don't believe me. Research it for yourself.

I mean, I'm personally a gun owner, although most of my guns fell in the lake in a horrible accident. But I was just completely incredulous that anybody banned something as innocuous as pepper spray when in the states women are advised to carry some as a safety measure.

Don't worry about us. It's a hell of a lot harder for people to get a pistol here, so we don't have to worry about every weirdo having a gun.

Both systems work, in the usa, if you decide to pull a gun on someone, for whatever reason, there is a good chance they are gona have a gun ready too, here in Canada, you don't have to worry about anyone pulling a gun, unless like stated they are a criminal.

we do have protection in our homes, as a lot of people hunt, and keep the hunting rifle pretty handy, it's not nearly as fast as a pistol, but it sure will tear the guy apart!

ok thats enough droning on from me :p

The question was about pepper spray and has little to do with guns. You don't have women assaulted by rapists there? This is where I would envision the biggest need for pepper spray.

And if you spent 3 months in California or Maryland you would feel otherwise.

This is derailing the thread, guys. I really wanted to know from the canadians if they thought that banning pepper spray was sensible.
