I actually rented a sr5 for the weekend to see if i would be comfortable in it, and ended up getting a sport for the 6mt. I know its stupid but one thing I really like that the TRD's have is the auto up/down on the front windowso_O

If you're ruling out the TRD OR with its Crawl Control and rear locker, it doesn't make sense, money-wise, to go with the TRD Sport, unless you want a certain options package that is only available for the TRDs (or that sweet ass scoop). I've had 4 Tacomas and 1 FJ, all with off road packages, and I've always found use for the added features.

That looks like a great truck and a good price . I think you will love it --- no buyers remorse .

Reasons Im not a fan of the sport trim:

    1) It's basically the same price as the off-road except you are missing nice things to have - locker, suspension, and more capable tires/wheels from the get go. IMO, you are buying a Tacoma - if u want something more on-road oriented the Ridgeline or the Ranger really are better buys.

    2) IMO, the fake hood scoop is silly. If it was functional, sure, great... but it's not and everyone knows it lol. Just seems dumb to me... I thought the same thing when I had one on my old Mustang. It also adds to the 3rd gen's already bad visibility over the hood.

If you want an automatic I think the SR5 is the best route if you can find a good deal on a low mile used one (good luck). If you are buying new I found the price difference between the TRDs and the lower models to be negligible - especially if you want a 4x4 v6. The TRDs will also have higher resale value.

If you are open to a stick shift you should pursue that route... it is clearly the better powertrain option from the factory but TRDs are your only option with the manual, 4x4, and v6.

yeah I agonized over offroad or sport, and in the end being a 6mt it was basically do I want a rear locker or the sweet ass skewp:D Since I have a modded XJ with front and rear lockers I figure the Tacoma will only see gravel and the rare bit of snow. That and I find it hard to take a $35k brand new truck offroad. So in the end I had to ask myself am I a poser that has a TRD Sport 4X4 that never goes offroad, or a serious poser that has a TRD Offroad 4X4 that never goes offroad lol.

I personally always hated SR5. Hated the wheels, grille, chrome rear bumper, and entire interior. I would prefer SR if I really wanted to save money. So it was either SR or TRD for me. I picked TRD for the manual so that was m decision.

Read the fine print on the Dealer warranty, those usually stipulate that you have to have all maintenance done at the Dealership in order for it to be valid.

Hey OP, it seems 10% off of MSRP is pretty much the norm these days.

They sr5 cement interior was a big nope for me. Lots of people use the Clazzio seat covers change the look. But damn the black headliner is slick, among other things mentioned here.

WOOHOO..I just purchased a 2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad on EBay. It is a theft recovery with a salvage title. No super cool hood scoop, but I'm ok without. Its been rebuilt and its mine. I am planning a trip to go get it next week or so.
