Yep, here I am too, but not as lucky as you. I had to pass on the beer over the weekend, only to find that I now can no longer have alcohol due to new medications. Zero/Zip. There is hope that this will change down the road, but for now... I have to pare down my stock to long duration holds. Sucks, but health first...

It actually really good. Start with a small batch - maybe split off a little from a large batch and do some fruit additions.

Definitely! So far so good. There is that one all black can still to try... it's a whopping 11%, so might need to be on a Friday night or Saturday night.

 

Buying some of these to split my batches was one of the best brewing buys i've made. really lets you try things out and see how it affects things. Fruits, yeasts, hops, etc can all be done in the fermenters. @nkg

I have a 5 gallon carboy and you're right, that is the perfect use for it. I haven't been using it at all since a buddy gave it to me as part of his starter kit. I thought, what a funny thing to include in a starter kit that doesn't come with a kettle lol.

 

The 3 gallon ones are good for splitting so you minimize oxygen ingress (even if it's plastic, these aren't long term storage units). If you put less than 5 gallons in a 5 gallon carboy, it can get oxidized, no bueno.

 

I've had plenty of ''cheat days" since home (all of them)... But this is another solid beer from Solace.

A sunny summer afternoon...live music in Rocky Point Park, and three, count em, THREE cottage breweries side by each from whence to fetch some golden nectar to convey back to the park....happily flouting British Columbia's Spanish Inquisition era liquor laws....

Of course, Rocky Point Park is covered in $%#$%@ snow right now and most of the musicians that would normally be there are doing the cruise ship circuit in the Caribbean, but I can dream.....

And since I appear to have run out of my Yellow Dog (well, not precisely, but if I do not leave the last one in the beer fridge for my better half, any hopes of a relaxing, quiet evening will be but a fantasy.....)

One last bottle of Samuel Adams Ootoberfest left over,skulking in the very back of the fridge....this one is a treat for us, since we can't buy it in British Columbia; a six pack or two is always a companion to filling up our petrol tanks at Costco in Bellingham....

 

Gotta offset the good progress that I'm making losing weight with a delicious beer. Otherwise the Mrs will bug out and say I'm getting too skinny.
