Wearing tires out is hardly equivalent to destroying the truck.

Unless the truck is such a heap that it wouldn't be worth it to replace the worn out tires.

Not really, no. Not even close. You went and actually launched an unprovoked and completely unnecessary attack.

Amazing, I think it has been mentioned here only one time. How hard is it to turn the little knob from 4H to 4L, & back?. It's not like you need to get out & lock & unlock the front hubs every time the conditions change. Just switch back & forth as needed. It will also keep the shifting actuators working properly. Just my opinion.

To the OP...I'm up in Saskatchewan, so not far from you and similar conditions. Mine is in and out of 4Hi as necessary. On our, non-salted, snow covered roads, almost always 4Hi. When I hit parking lots where sharp turns will be required I switch it to 2Hi. Did the same with my old Gen1, never an issue. IMO, 4wd is like parking brakes....use it or lose it. I would say, this time of year, I'm in 4Hi 70% of the time.
    Cheers, Jeff

Owners manual recommends 10 miles a month in 4WD to keep the front drive components lubricated. I do all 120 miles a year in December.
