In the recent past I have been employed at Giants Stadium (not by the Giants) and have been in the Giants offices and met the owners. I can tell you they are all about tradition and doing the right thing and asking the players to just do their job, just like Belichick. That said, the owners genuinely obsessed over whether to re-sign OBJ, but in the end, they know he's a generational talent, and felt they can deal with his immaturity and that would straighten out, and could steer him right. That seems to be the case, he has settled down quite a bit and he's not in the tabloids after every time he visits L.A. or Miami. Time will tell if that holds. They also saw there was quite a bit of interest in him from other teams and felt it a mistake to let him go. Right or wrong, they still believed in Eli and think they can be a playoff team in the short term, and signing OBJ was a sign of that. If they thought a complete rebuild was necessary, and it would take 3 years with a new drafted QB, they wouldn't tie up that much money in one receiver long term. You can see how much better Eli's numbers were in the second half of the season after they somewhat addressed the offensive line problems. I don' think Eli is going to be around after this season, but the Giants didn't think he was done after last season (2017). We'll see what he has left in 2019.

Yeah, his O-line has been made of swiss cheese the last couple of seasons. But even so, every game I've seen the Giants play in the last couple of seasons (which admittedly has not been many) you're wondering which Eli will show up. The guy who can still throw long balls and zip them across the field, or the guy who dumps dying quails short of his receivers.
If I were the Giants I'd have kept Beckham too, but cut Eli loose and gone after a young QB in this year's draft. Beckham can make up for a lot of shortcomings in a QB, and his hands would be a good way for a rookie to gain confidence in his first season or two. But, I don't run an NFL franchise, so my opinion is moot

Antonio Brown wants to be in San Fran anyway. Wonder if 49ers make that happen.

It’s highly possible so it seems.Raiders and Packers also mentioned on the interweb.

I'd actually like to see the Niners do something next year. Maybe if Jimmy G will stay healthy and can learn their system they can make the post season for a change.

Shit, Chiefs would have fun playing him twice a year if he went to Raiders, lol.

I think if the Giants had signed Odell and then signaled that they thought Eli was done and drafted a QB, then Odell would have become a problem and start crying to trade him to a team that wasn't rebuilding. He's not going to mark time for two years, that's not his personality. There's only a few short prime years Odell has left by now. Most drafted QBs that do make it in the NFL, only come into their own in their 3rd year. A couple of exceptions do it earlier, I know, but you can't count on that. I think the Giants had to sell it to Odell that they wouldn't go into a rebuilding phase, that they were "all in" on doing what's necessary to be a playoff contender in 2019.

The rumor mill is going strong. The Niners are still in the running for Odell Jr. too. I think I'd rather see them get him than Brown. Brown is 30, Odell is only 26. The Patriots want him, but they could pull a homeless guy off the street for a receiver and still get to the big game.
