I haven't had that high of a number... typically get some on startup and cold engine, but has never been over 10. So I'm not worried about it. Got around the same on stock tune.

Question is, would people have noticed the misfires had they never looked into it? Seems like it may be out of our control, hence I don't look for them

Exactly, looking for stuff like this is enough to make someone's sanity/OCD go nuts...or ruin marriages

I monitored them before all the talk about em for shits and giggles and curiosity. I definitely wouldn't of known unless I saw it.

Shouldn't knock count be more concerning than misfires?

We see misfires all the time here at our shop (not Toyota’s, European cars) However, it’s usually due to a real problem that causes one or more cylinders not to fire. Ignition coil, Sparkplug, Fuel Injector, etc. These need to be fixed. I too am curious at to what’s causing the misfires people are seeing but if it’s not causing a complete cylinder shutdown than it may be chasing a ghost. It can actually be quite frustrating chasing a true misfire when the computer doesn’t want to register it for a period of time.

Most definitely. However, misfires will cause you to have a bad mpg too. There is a lot at play for a misfire to happen.

I would think this also. As long as acceleration and driving is smooth what are a few misfires?

That's all you can download at this point. Mat hasn't released the performance tunes for your ECU yet.

I will say that I installed Spark plugs that were darn near identical to stock .040” gap vs the stock .032” and it drove noticeably worse with horrible gas mileage so make sure you put the exact stock plugs in because it does make a difference in these Lexus engines. I found them the cheapest at Summit

Thanks for the reply guys. So then my read on this is if your engine is running smoothly and getting good MPG to not worry about misfires too much.

It was best if you monitored the stock state of the vehicle before you flashed it so you have a baseline. I would just monitor and if symptoms become more exaggerated then I would raise a ticket to mat. Otherwise, enjoy the tune.

So you can't adjust the gap on these new plugs?

My average morning commute is 20 minutes, say my average RPM is 2,500. I had 9 misfire this morning, all occurred within first 2 miles (cold engine), which is acceptable in my book.

    9 / (20 * 2500) = 0.00018 That's 9 misfire in 50,000 revolutions, which all occurred while engine still warming up. 0.018% misfire occurrences.

If you really want to get down to the nuts and bolts, every revolution, there is possibility for 6 misfires (6 cylinders), so 9 / (6 * 20 * 2500) = 0.00003. That's 0.003%!

If you get a handful of misfire while engine is cold, don't worry about it. If you are seeing steady misfire while driving at operating temperature, then start looking. Fuel quality, driving condition, bumpy road, tune, crank position censor, or other sensors, injectors, etc...
