I remember reading that before. Not sure it answers my specific question since this guy already had the transfer case from an automatic transmission. So basically, I have an A340E in the shed. It's been in storage for a while but @Key-Rei thinks it was pretty new inside. If the stars align, I may be getting another one (along with the whole truck). I was thinking about doing what the guy above did and putting a 4WD tail shaft on the A340E which I guess would essentially be converting it to an A340F then putting the OGT's T-case on it. Although it might be cheaper just to get an A340F from the salvage yard, especially if they are willing to trade the A340E I have.

After a quick engine rebuild, cab and bed swap, and a front clip round robin (front clip of the 01 Taco to Natty, OGT's front clip to the 01 Taco cab, Natty's front clip to the 01 Taco), fresh OD green paint for the OGT and voila! A new and improved OGT with an automatic transmission, tan interior and a fresh engine, a cool face lift for Natty, and a strange looking 2WD Taco for either parts, or whatever.

I haven't seen different cases. The biggest pain is finding an output shaft and rear housing by themselves. What year did the a340e you have come out of? Is it cable or electric shifted?

Mine came out of an '01 2WD T4R. It's electrically shifted, I think. I don't think you need a rear housing for the T-case. I'm thinking it just bolts up to the transmission. At least that's my assumption. Quickest way to find out I guess is if I took the tail housing off the A340E and dropped the OGT's T-case, and see if the tail housing bolts up to the R150F housing. That would tell you right there if there's an adapter plate involved in there anywhere.

So, back when my dad was in the Army, he was stationed at Ft Clayton in the Panama Canal Zone. I was there for half of 2nd grade through the first half of 5th grade. I found a couple of Facebook groups related to the CZ, including one for my dad's old unit (534th MP Company, 193rd Infantry Brigade). It's been kind of neat reading stories people are sharing about their time there, mostly folks that were there in the 60's and mid 80's. Earlier today, a guy posted a picture of some MP's getting ready for PT, and boom, right there, a picture of my dad (2nd from left):
[IMG]Dad PT by Lee, on Flickr

It was cool to see guys talking about him. I mentioned who I was and I've gotten a handful of messages, including an ongoing conversation with one of his old roommates. It's really good to hear from guys that knew him back then. It's been painful to let them know he passed, but I'm getting all kinds of stories that he had never really shared before. One guy even mentioned a story my dad had told in passing - they had been sent to Guyana together to recover bodies after the Jim Jones Kool-Aid incident. It's kind of surreal.

Well, if it all goes down like I'd like, you will definitely know.

Probably me planning a foolish waste of money. That Imperial Jade '01 Prerunner down in Miami...I may make an offer on it if it's still for sale by the time I get the insurance pay out. The front clip is the right color to put on the T4R and I've seen T4Rs with '01-'04 Taco front clips and they looked badass. Plus, the cab has a tan interior and has the wiring harness and transmission electronics for an automatic transmission. I figured since swapping interiors would be a huge PITA, I'd just swap cabs, get an A340F, slap my T-case on it with a 4WD auto trans Taco center console and swap the bed too if it's in good shape because mine is buckled from the PO and tweaked from me slamming it into the ground. The OGT would then be a 4WD automatic with a tan interior, which I always wished it was to begin with, and the T4R will have a badass front end for a unique look.

As for the Prerunner, it will give me a rebuildable engine I can rebuild and put in the OGT and then mothball the OGT's engine in case the T4R or the OGT ever need another one. I can either use the rest for parts or, I know someone who would like to have an extended cab. ;)

One blem and 4 new. Of course right after I bought them they updated the blem list with more of the wheel I bought. I would’ve gotten all blems if I could.

Possibly. Depends on if I can get the weekend off and if I’m built by then. Gonna try. Thinking of doing a trip up to Potts mountain and uwharrie in April or May.

Pro Tight Wad Tip: Buy a gallon of the uncut Toyota coolant and then mix it with a gallon of distilled water (about a buck, depending on where you get it). It'll be a lot cheaper.

Also, the radiator should burp itself. That's what the plastic coolant tank is for. ;) When the coolant heats up, the pressure will force the air out into the coolant tank which will then vent into the atmosphere. When you shut the truck off and the coolant cools down, it will create a vacuum that will suck the coolant in the tank back into the radiator. You just have to monitor the coolant level in the tank and make sure it's topped off to the full line.
