It disengages auto LSD once you begin turing. That's definitely the best mode for drag racing though.

Auto LSD sucks anyway. The last thing I want while trying to slide around is the axles to have brakes applied to them robbing power.

It can be done. 2nd gen axle is interchangeable. You can get 4.30 gearset and clutch type LSD from Yukon.

I can't figure out how to do it for under $2k though. Blehhhhh

Why not the axle from 3rd gen 2.7L/AT? 8” diff with 4.30:1 true trac is available for that configuration.

I had not been able to confirm if it's the same as a 2nd gen axle yet. Is it?

Edit: Hmmmm it's looking like you are right. Really smart. I haven't found one under $1k yet though. The Duragrip is $600 and you need the $200 overhaul kit to install it. So it's still $2kishh. This saves $250ish and it'll be a newer axle so less worried about doing the wheel bearings.

Dude we're having a conversation about something way more important.

Want good MPG? Don't push the gas pedal much. Gain speed down hills and bleed it up hills.

This is the manual transmission group. I would imagine most of us are hammer down shifting at 6800 getting ~11mpg like me.

Yep 3rd gen NON TRD automatic transmission trucks use the pre Tacoma 8” Toyota third member in the rear axle. 1st and 2nd gen use the “8.4” rear axle which is still an 8” ring gear but the case has a stiffening frame on the back of it.

Yep the Duragrip compatibility chart includes that axle now. Last time I checked I don't think it did.

I also have to figure out how to defeat the codes it's gonna throw when I unhook the E-locker.

Think that plugs and plays? Would certainly be simple.

I wonder what the used market is like for a E-locker and OR 4wd ecm.

Freaking stellar. I saw a 2mpg bump with 04B13. FOB 87 is looking like another 2mpg? I'm still early in it though.

    Possibly would knowing Toyota.

No idea. I personally would not pay over breaker price for one but that’s me.

Hey MT guys and gals. Curious, anyone with the tune, does 5th and 6th drive smoothly at low rpm cruising? Between 1000 and 2000 rpm, any shuttering?
This issue is present even on brand new autos and I want to rule out the engine..

On 04B12, I had to stay above 2k in the higher gears. I could pull slight hills in 6th at 40.

On 04B13, I got a small power bump and could slightly accelerate up those same hills in 6th at 35. About 1,500rpm.

On FOB 87, 6th at 30 is pulling hard and smooth. 1,000rpm is a happy zone in the upper gears. When doing this, I am finding myself overshooting the speed that I want.
