I see you are in NC, if possible it would be coo to meet up sometime. I really like the way you set up that bed rack and tire gate and would like to see it in person. Definitely and inspirational build.

We could make that happen. You're about 3 hours from me, I try not to come out of the mountains if I can help it.

I need to do a camp/shoot before my trip in July.

Message me we'll talk about it. :)

One of my overlanding routes would take me along this ridge line. Took this photo on the motorcycle trip in July 2017.

This is probably the closest thing (but not even close) you can get to real Overlanding in the Southern Appalachians. In my humble opinion there is no Overlanding in the South East. Off-roading, 4X4ing, mudding, rooting, mud bogging, generally tearing your truck up (on privately owned land) ok we've got that but not Overlanding in the purest sense. The public land here has plenty (100's of miles) of National Forest MVU dirt roads but they are on continuous lock down.

There are some trails you need to watch some of Mountain State Overland videos but they are pretty hidden and off the beaten path. Not nearly as good as the oregon trail or others out west. Also the NE and E Canada has some cool trails. Georgia Traverse and Kentucky Adventure trail are a couple I can think of off the top of my head.

Thank you, I put alot of thought into the layout, to much :) Here's a straight on shot just before install, more details can be seen.

The empty spot below the CTEK is for a CTEK smartpass at some point. For up to 140amps of recharging with starter battery assist. The main CTEK has an MPPT input for solar panels, future mod.

***The rack can be removed from the truck in this exact configuration so it's basically a modular install.

Even though you probably wont be throwing a ton of weight on there and it is a short span, you might consider running those 2x4s standing up instead of laying on their side.

You are correct greater strength in that orientation. I would prefer to do it that way but I'll lose the ability to use my bed rails. Which I'll be using to attack cargo net anchor points.

It has rain/snow/sleeted here every weekend for over month. I've got a long list of items to complete and only 16 weekends til my trip. Finally got one nice day yesterday so I had to pick something on my list I could try to complete in one day.

    3/2/2019

***still need to radius some corners, dress the welds, and paint

Keep in mind this is not a security rack. It will only be used on this trip when I'm with the truck 24/7 for 16 days.

Was able to get the metal fabrication done on the rack today before the rain started again.

    3/3/2019

***radiused corners, dressed welds, and deburred

***degreased and first lite coat of Duratex (color matched to interior)

2 hours to surface dry so I can put the final heavy coat, then 5 days to cure.

This stuff is great I highly recommend it.
