If anyone is interested in a 265/75/16 Discoverer at3, I have one tire that I had to buy to get me home! Tire only has 500 miles on it. Tire is E rated.

Pretty sure you’ll rub on your UCA. Just get some wheel spacers to push the wheel out and then chop your cab mount as needed

Thanks for your help with this. Why do you think they will rub. Have you run such a set up? I see a lot of people running 285/75/16 with 0mm offset and 4.5" backspacing. You think that 5mm will make a difference?

    Thanks again

    Hi guys,

So I've just lurked this thread and don't see a ton on mpgs with these tires. I'm attracted to the AT3 partially because of it's on road manners and quite ride, fuel economy and wet traction. I highway commute in the PNW so that's pretty key. Weekend warrior in me wants the XLT but common sense says the 4S. The LT looks great too, and I want to do more trails and possibly a small camper in the coming years. So, if I stay at the same size tire as I'm running now but go with the LT(10lbs heavier) Will I kill my fuel economy?

i'm on 265/65-17 E range LT's. these tires have not noticeably dropped my mileage. but i've run E's since beginning so don't have much to compare to. 16-17mpg, up to 18.5 if i'm trying.

hello again after the bad mounting and balancing experience with the Toyota dealer went to a independent shop had the tires road forced balanced again they said no excessive road force 3 tires used under 2 ounces of weight and one used about 2 1/2 ounces way less than the dealer used but still vibration at 55 mph you can see the bed bouncing at 60 it smoothes out at 70 vibration again I don't know never had this problem before the tires are quiet and gas mileage did not change . its strange as far as I can tell the front is smooth only the rear vibrates maybe the road force balancing because the rear is light might add some weight in the bed and see what happens

Back when i was running 265/75 x 16 cooper AT3s I was getting about 16 mpg average. I just slid out a few too many times in the snow and dropped the AT3 completly from my setup due to winter time snow handling. I traded them for KO2s. Now i have 285 75 16 KO3s, truck is lifted 3", lumber rack, shade shell and bed drawers which add a few 100 lbs to the rear and i am getting about 14 mpg average.

I have a set of LT265/75r16's (load range C) of AT3's .... 25k miles on em.... and i hate them. HORRIBLE and I mean HORRIBLE wet / ice traction, they have gotten unbearably loud and have killed my mpgs. Got them 1.5 years ago, they still have decent tread life left, but the siping on many blocks are minimal to gone now (obviously siping doesnt go all the way through).... I found it very interesting about 2 months after i purchased these tires the 4S model came out with much more siping and probably a different rubber compound.

Needless to say i wont ever put these shitty tires back on my truck at all.

Wow, I was thinking of giving the AT3 XLT a shot since it is mountain snowflake rated. Wonder how much difference there is between yours and the new version?

I can’t speak for the AT3’s, but I love my XLT’s. Zero issues in any terrain or road condition, super quiet, and ride smooth. They’re quiet and look aggressive. You wont be disappointed in them.

from a quick glance the only difference between the regular AT3 and XLT version is the sidewall.... wouldnt touch the fucking things with a 10 foot pole. They are going to be fine and dandy for the first 10k miles.... but then they will get louder, and louder, and shittier and shittier traction as their siping disappears

Ill be switching back to Michelin LTX M/S2's (Now LTX Defender M/S) once they come off of backorder.... No other tire i have ever used has had better Wet and ice traction over the michelin, or be as smooth and long lasting.

Just when I think I've made up my mind. The tread pattern looks almost identical between the versions. Other than the more pronounced side lug. Cooper says 60,000 Mile warranty, has that changed from your model? 10k seems very low for tread life.

Very different tires with different purposes. There are many, many people that swear by the AT3's and have no issues in the rain and snow with them. Loud? Maybe compared to the Michelin's but to the average A/T they are very mild.

You buy the Michelin's if you don't ever plan to take them off road more than a forestry service road or to get the ATV's to the trail head.......or if the sound of someone stirring their tea in the morning is deafening.

Edit: I have a co-worker that has the AT3 on his 3/4t Dodge with the Cummins. He currently has over 40k miles on them with a bunch of that towing his Airstream all around Colorado. Not a single complaint.

Keep in mind all that i have stated were on AT3's that were purchased september 2017 (LT265/75R16 Load Range C). Its OBVIOUS they have changed things. There used to only be one AT3, with P and LT options (back when i bought my tires). Now you have a 4S in NON LT and P rated ONLY, the AT3 LT which looks to be the same tire as mine (as far as tread and sidewall pattern) only available in LT options, and the AT3 LTX (LT load only) which from everything on coopers website is showing the ONLY difference is the "RUGGED TRACTION SHOULDERS".

My tires still have 8-9/32nds of tread life left at 25k miles of use (started life with 16.5/32nds), I rotate them every 5 k, get them balanced every 10k, alignment is spot on and wear is EVEN across the tires and among all 4 tires. But they only had decent grip in the wet / ice / light snow for the first 10k. After 10k is when siping started to disappear, noise of the tire started to become more and more apparent and grip in anything but dry surfaces started to suffer quite a bit.

Its been raining quite a bit here in socal, the other day after being up in mammoth getting ~ 6ft of snow dumped on us between friday night and sunday morning (and slipping more than i am used to on snow and ice) I made it back to LA, still raining to drop a buddy off. The on ramp to the freeway, wet and on an incline. I make the turn onto the onramp and gingerly accelerate only to have a rear tire start slipping on me in a straight line, I was not accelerating fast (i drive generally like a grandpa) and couldnt even keep up with the 1ton truck in front of me on skinny 245's to get on the freeway. It was as this point I knew these tires had to go, and i would not be buying them or recommending them ever again.

Here is a picture i just took of one of my tires, didnt even have to look for missing siping, keep in mind, my tires DID start out like the pictures of the AT3 LT (with siping all the way across the tread blocks). Some tread blocks still have sipes that go all the way across, some have spots of siping, and some areas none, making it hard for tread blocks to flex and provide edge grip (hence the lack of wet and ice traction now).... talk about shit quality control.

So what are you going to try next? Are you going to try the 4s? There is a thread on them which seems to be pretty positive.

Wont be touching anything with "cooper at3" in the name thats for sure. I always end up comparing every tire i try to Michelin MS2's (AKA LTX Defender M/S) as far as wet / ice / dry performance, and nothing comes close, I always regret not going with the Michelin's so ill be going that route once they come off backorder.
