what do you think of the Vernon service department? I don't know what's happened to Kelowna, but things have really gone downhill... they dented my truck, and I just took my truck in for service and told them not to wash it, so they parked it where it would get extremely dirty and gave it back to me looking like I'd just driving the Coke... I don't know if Vernon is any better but looking for options

 

I've seen your truck, how do you like the ADS setup?

 

Had my alignment done at Elite Auto Center on Enterprise close to Leathead intersection. No problems, provided printout, experienced in 4x4s.

 

I've really only dealt with them for parts for my 4Runner over the few years. I bought my truck in Kelowna and brought it to Vernon to have the brakes looked at and wanted an early oil/filter change. They shuddered, so they replaced the pads and turned the rotors since they were out of round from factory new. Seems better now.
They did do a decent job cleaning it, no dents. Sorry, can't say much more than that yet.

 

I haven't dealt with Vernon
Toyota yet but will be looking at them. After Kelowna Toyota changed ownership it seems to have gone down hill ,I bought my first Tacoma from them in 2008 , but try dealing with them when I bought my 2018 I had to go somewhere else as I wasn't happy with there sales staff at that point
I don't know about Penticton though.

 

For Kelowna locals that have trouble w/ the Toyota dealership, have you considered getting the Lexus dealer to work on your truck? I'd imagine they'll have the know-how and tools to handle anything on a Tacoma. I dropped by there a few days ago to get a lug nut key for a new-to-me LX570, and all staff were very friendly and professional. They also mentioned that their service department doesn't get a ton of work (few Lexus' on the streets around here) and has lots of availability, so that could be a plus, too.

Kel Toyota is full of a bunch of jokers. I bought my truck new there, was treated like a nobody from the start, and every time I go in for a warranty issue, I have to fight to get anything done. And when they do actually do work on it, they fuck it up.

Last fall I had the leafs replaced under warranty. I went to reinstall my lift, and I could remove the U bolt nuts by hand. BY FUCKING HAND. I could have had an accident driving home, 10 Minute drive.

I also just had the body descaled and undercoated under warranty. They forgot to reinstall my hub cap cover, no big deal. They also torqued the nuts to 110 ft.lbs. Factory manual says 85. Okay, thats silly but whatever. I then look under the truck, there is overspray all over the body panels, and on two of the wheels. They were not careful in doing the job.

I have also had many other, small warranty issues with the truck.. I'm pretty fed up with them, and would not recommend them, nor buy another toyota product again, as a boycott of Toyota's lac of fucks to give about their clients.

And how is my next service basically recommend right fucking now, but they didnt say anything to me (Not that I would let them touch my truck again)

I can’t deal with Kelowna Toyota either. Their sales department wouldn’t give me the time of day when I was buying my 2012 Taco. Ended up getting it from Valley Toyota in Chilliwack(they bent over backwards to close the deal) took it to Kelowna for to service a squeaky clutch pedal and they refused to do it under warranty (only 15k kms on it). When I sold the 2012 a few years ago, Penticton Toyota ended up buying it from me and treated me awesome. Bought my 2017 from them and they have been real good to deal with.

 

I tried to deal with Penticton toyota and found the salesperson was to pushy so I went else where to get my 2018 tac .

 

Kelowna Toyota just did the driveshaft W.E.P. replacement for me. it went smoothly but I've heard some stories about them. A co worker had a missing skid plate on his 4Runner after service from them.

 

I just left my truck overnight so they could hear this noise on cold startup and they were less than helpful, tech commented that "video presented as if the engine was being revved above the ECU determined idle mapping" but as you can see if this video clip works... the engine does not move from a steady idle, the sound is something else that resists starting up after the engine starts...

It only does it on cold start, and the colder the louder, but it was there before the cold weather hit, just more subtle... you can see in this clip it was minus 9. Since they dented my truck last year, they treat me as if I'm the one that screwed up and it's just uncomfortable to go there... I might try Penticton, I haven't heard great things about Vernon either...

Jaapsheep. Mine is a brand new '19 and does the same thing when it's cold out, although it only does it once for a second or so at -10 or colder and only on initial start up. Warmer than that, nothing out of the ordinary.

Thought it was odd myself and would love to know wtf it is and why.

 

That's quite a common sound from an engine when it is really cold out; 2nd gens do that as well. Not sure if its the serpentine belt with the extra resistance of moving everything that is cold, or something to do with the oiling system and valve train.

 

thanks, that makes me feel better... didn't notice it last year, but maybe it wasn't as cold, can't remember LOL. The tech at Kel Toyota said it was a heavy electrical load which I doubt because I had the lights off and it was only about minus 9 or so when he started it. Anyway, seems like it's nothing serious, thanks!

 

They just make shit up there. I am mechanically inclined, and often research before I bring my truck in to them. They are usually unwilling to actually diagnose the problem, and if they to 'diagnose' it, its wrong, with a made up answer. It's as if they don't want to work on vehicles there.
