Nice! Refresh rate, resolution, and adaptive sync or not? Common man, we need deets.

I put two of the new Gigabyte monitors in my cart online but I couldn’t pull the trigger. Honestly even if I get $200 for each of my current monitors thats $1k for a bit larger monitor with free sync that might not work with my cards lol.

To be honest, I don't really notice it. That being said, from reading various gaming monitor reviews my monitor has a gentle curve compared to some.

If I was looking at a new monitor right now I'd take a long look at the ultra wide monitors. There POV advantage in PvP games is huge and some of the newer ones offer 1440p with active sync for a reasonable cost given their size.

MSI has a 3440x1440 100hz VA for $400 but then there are a bunch over $700. Have heard mix reviews for MSI. Microcenter has a bunch of ultrawides in stock, hopefully they have some on display so I can try them out.

The AW3418DW basically has a religious following on the ultrawide subreddit

It clicks a lot of boxes for what I consider a good gaming monitor. By good, I mean something that will not only look good but give you some competitive advantage over 90% of gamers who still use 60 hz monitors without adaptive sync.

    1. 1440p (easy to drive, 4K ultrawide takes at least a 1080Ti/2080 IMHO)
    2. 120 hz (roughly double 60 hz which is good for an ultrawide. I prefer 165 plus but it's hard to tell the difference for most)
    3. G-Sync (ain't nobody running AMD cards anymore jks)
    4. DP (Absolutely necessary for both adaptive sync and the resolution at that refresh rate, do not use HDMI)

But is it double than the MSI ultrawide good? I'm going to my local store in a couple hours to see if they have anything on display

Hey man, I'm an AMD fan. That being said their support in the market has really evaporated and even the Radeon VII doesn't look that shit hot for gaming. I mean it's a great work card, especially since it's basically a repackaged CAD/workstation card, but for it's price it's basically a 2080 without all the stuff that makes a 2080 a 2080 lol. Yeah, sure, the RTX features aren't well used yet but the list of games implementing features from the 20 series is growing and not having those features on the Radeon cards will probably make the VII obsolete sooner rather than later for the average gamer.

It also sucks for people like me that most programs are using CUDA instead of OpenCL still. If more programs used OpenCL for GPGPU then I could use a Radeon VII.

On a 32" ultrawide you will notice the difference between 1080p and 1440p. Hopefully the store models are hooked up to a good source. Also one thing you won't see in store is adaptive sync actually working. Just my two cents, but if you have an nVidia card g-sync should be a priority if you're going to spend over $1k on a monitor. Screen tearing in games sucks and you won't know what you're missing until you have a high refresh rate g-sync panel.

Alienware was definitely way better than the MSI even at double the price.
