    "SOLVED"
My stock tires inside wheel weights were hitting the sway bar. problem solved! thanks for the help
ps... as soon as I solved that not it clanks when I hit the brakes the first time I touch them in forward or reverse... search button here I come! hahaha

    Hey guys,

First off.. this site is invaluable! thanks for all the reads.

Now, I installed my Toytec 3" Ultimate lift and noticed on Hard left uturns, I get a clunking sound. I have a 2008 4x4 access cab with the stock tires still on it and the diff drop. Either slow or fast. Almost a double clunk. And it goes with the rotation of the wheel, at exactly the same spot in forward or reverse.

I took it and got it aligned and it is still there. I tried having someone turn it while I was underneath it but I couldn't see anything binding or clunking. It sounds like it coming from the drivers side.

I guess I could just not do that hard of a turn but what fun is that!? :)

    Anyone else experience this problem?!

What size tires are you running? Might be your tires rubbing your cab mounts. Grind them off and you will be good if that's the case.

No... Checked that the tire clearance and its good since im still stock. waiting for my 285s to be mounted on my new rims. It happens in the same spot when I turn and the wheels are turning. sounds like something in the driveline!?

It could be your Steering Column that's causing the clunk.

You shouldnt have any clunking. Re check the torque on all the bolts you touched when installing the lift.

    Hey chris,

I will do that again tomorrow. I am sure I hit every bolt before I threw the tires back on but why not, right?!

if I crank the wheel though It clunks every time at a certain point in the rotation of the tire. That is why i am thinking it is something with the front drivetrain and only on a hard left turn.... not a right turn.

Could be the ball joint, LCA, any number of things. Best ot make sure all is tight first.

3" Lift with OME 885's, 5100's front and rear, alcan add-a-leaf. Banks Monster Exhaust, on the way: MM951C 17X9 and 285 MT/R's...
It could be the extreme angles of the cv axels when you are at full lock. I know that cv joints dont bind as much as traditional u-joints, butthey have their limits too. Just a thought, I have neve had this problem.

It could also be the backing plate rubbing on the rotor. That happened to me and it would only make that noise while making a left turn. I just pushed the backing plate back a bit and it all went away. But yeah it could be so many things, you just have to get under your truck and look for something that doesn't look right. good luck.

I have something similar goin on with my 2006 Tacoma TRD 4x4 DBL Cab V6 Auto. Its all stock. Bought it used about a year ago. Recently started hear a more aggressive clunking sound from under front end. It is common to hear as I back out of garage making left turn. Driveway has slight downhill grade as I turn around. Sound happens about mid way through turn. Sometimes will hear same clunk when leaving a parking spot with similar uneven ground. I took a look at everything underneath. Found that when I grabbed the front driver's side drive shaft yoke by the front transfer case (drive shaft between driver's side tire and transfer case), I was able to rock the yoke back & forth a great deal more than the passenger side. Not in and out as it would slide, but as to wobble around like the splines are sloppy. Has anyone found the same? Know if this is culprit?
