1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I replaced the transformer in the garage with an 18v one, just because that's what the new chime demanded. The original one from 2005 was a 12v unit.

My illuminated address light piggybacked off of the doorbell transformer, but it kept burning itself out since the address light was rated for 12v. I had to run a 12v transformer and low voltage landscaping wire to power it.

It's funny, most of the low voltage stuff in my house was all CAT5 from the builder. The garage sensors, the address light, the doorbell, etc.

 

That doesn't make any sense. Why would they do that?

 

That's normal for LV installs in houses, CAT5 meets the voltage and amperage needs and is jacketed so that it can be run without conduit.

I really hate high gauge solid core wire. It keeps breaking. Wish low voltage wires would all be stranded.

 

Is it really the smartest idea to install 120 Decibel car horns in range of where you have a baby?
