I mentioned this earlier and now found a youtube video. This might save someone a hassle at Costco. You can buy the tires and bring the tires and rims back to Costco to get them mounted but they will not mount them on the truck.

Same thing happened to me at Walmart. They said they don’t like to be reliable for scratching black wheels so they refused to do it. Went to two different Walmart’s actually with no luck

Most corporate type places won't install non oem sizes these days. Hell, I had a shop refuse to put snow tires on my wife's car because they didn't have tpms sensors. I had to bring the rims and tires to them then put them on the car myself

Discount Tire refused to touch a rim with a flat on my Z because I had spacers. I was told it was corporate policy not to takeoff/put on rims with spacers. I had to take the rim off the car myself for them to repair the flat. Since it was raining and I was in a suit, it was not a happy day for me.

Can’t really blame them for that. All the money grubbing idiots out there have everyone scared of being sued

That's pretty standard policy for most tire shops, spacers are a liability and if there's a failure with one after they work on the vehicle they could easily find themselves in a lawsuit. I hear often that people with spacers have to remove them before they can get new tires mounted, alignments, etc.

The silly rules have come about because some one has sued the hell out of them(or a similar business) before.

This is the world we live in.

Its so bad now, that when a boat or ATV comes in my shop, I take a video walkaround of it before touching it. We have had customers come back and say we scratched something or dented their fender. Now with a video we can sit down and review it together should the issue come up.

This summer I couldnt even get a local Big O Tires to assemble a set of OME sturts and springs b/c I didn’t buy them from their store. Sometimes I think it’s to avoid lawsuits that previous idiots have filed. Other times I think it’s just a way to increase profit margins.

Its mainly lawsuits. If you bring in parts the tech does not know where those came from. They could be some junk you got real cheap, or could be rebuilt parts, now the shop assembles it for you, the part fails and you go after the shop because they were the last ones to touch it. The shop can't recoup anything from the manufacturer because the parts were not part of the shops inventory.

Pretty sad how many people want something for free or think they should be over compensated for something minor

My local Firestone wouldn't swap my <5,000 mile tires onto new wheels. They said their policy was to only put new tires on rims. I asked if they would put people's snow tires on their rims in the winter and they said that according to their policy they couldn't.

Id rather they don't touch my truck anyways .

The techs are usually just highschool kids and fucking idiots .

I've watched them drop my wheels. And then destroy my spline drive key. Since then they can mount tires but they do not touch my truck.

Tried buying one size bigger ko2 at Costco, I was told they can't mount it on my taco because it's not oem size. They can sell the tires but I have to mount it my self. Fuck that went some where else, company policy.

Interesting. I just bought new tires for my GTI, took them in the back of the car to Costco and they mounted and balanced them no questions asked. They are also doing the same for my Rays and Falkens that I got from DTD as well. I used the GTI as a test run to make sure they wouldn’t screw up my rims and they didn’t put a single scratch on them.

Lol same thing happen to me at Costco, they wouldn’t mount my K02 265/70/17 which aren’t even big lol. And they couldn’t guarantee that they wouldn’t scratch my powder coated wheels, I ended up going to a hole in the wall tire shop and they did it no problem.

I’ve been struggling with who to use for my Taco which is why I tried out Costco for my GTI, but I’m still not 100%. I’ve had Rays and Falkens in my garage for 4 months now. One of my local shops said they could do it whereas the others said “they couldn’t guarantee and are not responsible for any damage” so they’re out!
