    You asked what I did.

Electrical tape is usually not a good, long term solution esp in summer heat. I do have plenty of vinyl applied for outside stickers and other de-chroming. That would be a better solution.

Haha yeah I was just kidding about the tape, definitely don't want to go that route as any kind of real solution...

Vinyl might be good enough to withstand heat/cold and time though, that is a good idea without trying to strip and paint or derp it. I have those vinyl stickers on my wheels (covering the chrome portions of course) that a TWer makes and so far those are standing up well even to being on the outside of the truck during a very salty MN winter.

I've been going back and forth on the wheel vinyl. The Sport wheel definitely look better all black. Maybe when I ditch the stock tires, I will make up my mind. Good to hear they are doing well in those conditions.

Yeah so far so good. I actually am using my stock Sport wheels with those vinyl stickers to black them out as my winter set (along with some Blizzaks) and bought a T4R Pro set of wheels to use in the summer, so salty winters are about all they are going to see!

That is @rrentrop 's kit. He worked with me to cover the interior trim. That was before he had stickers for the 4wd knob, PTS, and collars. So, I just have the console and vent rings done.

I did snag the separate one that he has to partially cover the steering wheel logo, but another person showed how to pull the badge off. I painted that sucker with a lot of pucker. It was a lot of work to even get that small sticker off.

I've had that for over a year now, but we don't get the summer heat that the East and South get. I don't expect any problems considering how well they work on the exterior.

Ohhh, found his site now. I'm in trouble, going to be ordering many stickers I'm sure...

Anyway sorry to OP for derailing this thread. @tonered if you have any more info/pictures on the collar to bring this back to discussion of the retainer, it is appreciated. But looks like I have some things to go on here now at least.

The nice thing is that stickers are not pricey. The de-chromed interior feels like a chill place now, where all the flash and reflections made it feel busy. I also removed the visor stickers. Gawd, those sucked nutz.

Here are zoomed in views of mine using the original pics:

Even with the nicked paint, it was way better than seeing the chrome with the big black knob.

    Thanks Rick, installed great.

Pro tip, use a fine tip Sharpie to color in the engravings. I’m still touching up.

    Nice!

You can also get paint pens in various colors at welding shops.

One other thing, just in case it comes in handy, Sharpies and most other permanent markers clean up with isopropyl alcohol. I used to freak folks out by using Sharpies on whiteboards.:rofl:

Thanks, I have the paint pens, but no fine tip ones. I’ll look into it, they’re cheap like $4

They are oddly cheap for how useful they are.

Another method from childhood is that crayons will infill things nicely. That won't be as durable as paint, but the color options with a 128 pack!

That works, but staying inside the lines wasn't something that I was good at, even since kindergarten.

Use nail polish, let it dry for a minute (so it's tacky but not dry) then rub off the excess with newspaper or thin computer paper. That or use fine emery cloth once dry to polish the surface.

    Cool stuff
I just got it today and so happy with how it feels in hand. I would highly recommend to anyone who cares about ergonomics. And made by a fellow member in the USA.
