3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights

I was looking at getting the Phillips bulbs but if you look at the link above I become confused on which to get. Is the "standard" vision better than the plus or extreme? I assume the crystal with the blue coating is actually a bit dimmer from the coating

 

Xtreme +100s are the best domestic bulbs by Philips, they sell higher efficiency Xtreme bulbs in Europe. You are correct that the Crystal vision will actually be a bit dimmer, just whiter in output. "Standard" vision is the equivalent of the stock H11 bulb in the Tacoma. Standard bulbs have long life and are not a performance bulb, LL or Long Life bulbs have extended life over standard and lower performance than standard. As you move up the +xxx rating, the output improves and the bulb life decreases. I believe the Philips Xtreme +100s have a 450 hour life, which is quiet good for a performance bulb. Based on my use of 200 hours a year, that would be ~27 months of use.

I think what may add to the confusion is the 'Standard' Hella (Osram Hyper) H9s are not actually a standard bulb, they are a +30 high performance bulb, so the 'Standard' terminology is inaccurate. For whatever reason Hella does not better market their enhanced performance. Even Philips marketing for their H9 +30 is very subtle.

Sorry, for some reason I was thinking H4 with that statement, not H11. The +100s are Philips highest performing H11. I have not yet tried the Philips H11 +100 though I'm certain the GE +130s will be significantly better. Are you looking at Philips for a better balance of bulb live vs performance?

 

My subjective observation for the record...

The Philips +100 (H4 i think?) were awesome on my 2nd gen Tacoma with reflector housings. Huge improvement over stock. Lasted 26 months.

In my 3rd gen Tacoma H11 projectors, the improvement wasn't nearly as noticeable (didn't have the truck for long so can't comment on longevity). Same goes for the Philips +100 H11's in my current 4runner projectors.

 

Thought about trying those, but chose the GE +130's. I'll see how they di in my 4Runner.

 

My guess is the GE will crush the Philips 100's.

That said, the Philips is still a great bulb. Slightly better performance and 400 hours.

 

You know how the +130s destroy every competing H11? They just released the +150 for H4s. Hopefully H11 isn't far behind.

Pretty Cool. 6 Month Warranty Though. I wonder if that's what they are thinking the lifespan is @crashnburn80 ?

 

Hard to say for certain, the existing +130 150hr bulb would last 9 months with my usage. Regardless of life, it is exciting to see manufactures continue to invest and improve the technology performance, providing marketplace competition. Cause right now, GE is making Osram, Philips, Sylvania all look like they are not even trying.

 

Completion is a good thing. In the end we all Win.

 

Just ordered the ge 130 from powerbulbs. Used the 20% code.
Can't wait to replace my stock bulbs!

 

Sooooo.... just to recap, since this is getting a bit to messy....

For a 3rd gen without drl's... what is the best for High / Low / Fog.
Not interested in the bouncy HID's...

Any info would be greatly appreciated... thanks.

 

GE +130 H11 with a set as backups due to short lifespan.

High beams are Hella H9s as linked in first page.

@crashnburn80 is working on a plug and play harness for the Hella H9s to work in the low beam spot as well, so keep an eye out for that since they’re nearly the same in output but with superior lifespan. That and you can buy one bulb brand for your HB and LB.

 

You can buy the IJDM extensions off eBay or Amazon and make a small cut in them. Then it's plug n play. Use Hella H9s for all four. That's what I did. One bulb for all four. And they are cheap.

-Is this somehow the same kind of mod that is needed by "shaving" the tab on the H9's to make them fit the harness, tacosrus?
The idea of being able to buy just one kind of bulb×4 is freaking awesome.

 

Correct, but allows you to leave the bulb connector alone since the harness is correct now. You might need to trim a metal tab on the hella h9’s though, it’s slightly different than the h11 too.
