Got my 23&Me DNA and Health results back this morning. I had done Ancestry before, but was interested in the health aspect. My father has parkinson's, has had cancers. My grandfather and grandmother died from cancers and my other grandfather had alzheimer's or something before he passed as well. I was hesitant to do the health part of the test, but I thought "If I know now, I can work towards decreasing risks".

I am very happy and relieved right now, it's hard to describe and sort of weird knowing more about yourself than maybe you thought possible. So Good news- No DNA variants that match up with parkinson's, and none that signal a known cancer. Those were my two biggest worries, more parkinson's than cancer though. I do have a slight chance for a late-on set alzheimer's, I am hoping there is progress in this field within the next 30 years and I wouldn't worry. I also have a chance of losing eye sight past 80 years old, this would obviously suck, but again I am going to trust modern medicine to give me bionic eyes at that point.

Oh, and I descended from Irish Kings, so show me some respect around here :rofl:

 That is very cool, Sire.
My friend has been wanting to do this. Didn't know that they had a health option to it.
    Thank you your Highness.

Finally someone who gets it!!! No whippings for you today.

    :D

There is an option for just DNA which is $99, and $129 for the health to be included, I got a pretty much half off deal around Christmas and me and the wife did them. I think some people are hesitant to do the health aspect too, since it could be devastating to find out you are a carrier for something. I think it is worth knowing though and did it. They have all sorts of other things they tell you like if you are a carrier for a inheritable disease, if I have neanderthal in me (you bet ya:homer:) and other things. I found that Ancestry is much better for your history and their info is more specific to your line, the 23 and Me seems to want to tell about since Africa and doesn't focus on the last 1000 years much, which is what most of us care about. Ancestry doesn't offer a health option though which is why I did both, also never hurts to double check someones work.

I like to think I'm not so short, but otherwise pretty good! "Niall of the nine hostages" seems more myth than real but I'll take it!

Funny you mention it, I just got my 23 results this week.
As long suspected, I am running some caveman blood.
And,as also suspected, still have lots of kinfolk in Northern NE.
More reason to get back to my roots and relocate to NH. o_O
    Cool stuff indeed.

My dad is crazy into geneology. He travels all over the world to do research and stuff. Now that he's retired it's like his new job.

This is actually the first Friday night I am doing something social (not work) in about two-three years. My brothers birthday is Saturday and everyone is getting together tonight go go bowling. Let me know if they are doing it again though, could be a nice evening!

I've read alot recently before I did my tests about the caveman stuff, they weren't as dumb as they say and might have lived a lot longer than they used to think. Also, there are varients there from their lines that are bubonic plague resistant and HIV. Lots of baltic states have those ones I guess.

I've never traveled around to meet people and do research but I bet that would be a fun thing to do. My brother and parents are going to Ireland this fall to trace a few steps. A great-great uncle John Holland has a statue or something out there because he invented the modern sub.

    https://www.britannica.com/biography/John-Philip-Holland

It briefly mentions it in the article but I was talking to an uncle who loves this stuff and he said the main and almost sole motivation for the creation was to kill british. He fucking HATED the british I guess.

If the plow is like mine, you'll need the winch to raise and lower it anyway. Only thing is I wish mine had power tilt. It's kind of a pain to get off and tilt it one way or the other, but I've pretty much just figured out how to do the driveway while leaving it in one direction as much as possible.

Yeah that is why I figured I'd spring for the winch now, I would need one in the future anyways. Power tilt add-on for polaris is like $600, which seems expensive, but a Boss with hydraulics is like 2-3k depending on if you want a v-plow or not.

I will probably be like you and figure out how to do it without having to change the blade angle too often, or maybe spring for the added tilt power. Things will have to be going pretty good for me to put down 3k for an atv plow.

Wow, thank you for those articles! I hadn't heard about any of that yet, although they appear to be very recent findings. Ive recently been doing better with my teeth so this only serves to keep it up.

This could be crazy and a huge development. My buddy works in the research triangle doing medical stuff in Raleigh/Durham working on cancer killers and was telling me he applied to a place that is working with a crispr like technique that's 8 times more effective/efficient. We are on the cusp of some crazy crazy advances. Lets just hope the unintended consequences aren't too wild.
