Hey Gents, this is my stomping grounds. Spent last summer running around the Stud Mill road area, Alligator Lake, Nicatous Lake etc. I dont' "think" you can still get from Dow Pines (Great Pond) to the Stud Mill Rd. Have to use the 3200 road (further up Rt. 9, the Airline) and some others. Be advised that they do not plow all these roads in winter, only if they are using them for logging and will also shut them down in the spring to avoid mud season damage. Some good wheeling in this area but you have to look for it.

If you're down for a short hike, Angel falls is a nice once. Beautiful at the top.

We should get a small group together and go explore some of the side roads up there. Was up there a month or two ago myself and theres some logging operations that are keeping some roads open.
I have to work on Monday like most people, but @MartinDWhite said he would be in state late Sat. So a day trip Sun Mar 10 would be doable. @Noelie84 Want to bring the land barge along? @m603holden you ever been to the Stud Mill area?

I might be able to. GF leaves for the UK Monday night, so I might be roped into helping her prep/pack that weekend instead, but god knows I'd rather go out and play around in the snow

Yep, that's the local name for it. Couldn't remember it, lol. Must be getting old...

Nice. I grew up in West Farmington; my parents still live up past the Titcomb Mountain ski slope, so I spent a LOT of time in Temple as a kid/teenager. We used to do the Day Mountain Road pretty regularly back in the day, when I had my Cherokee & Grand Cherokee

Well shit, lets make it happen! We can meet up in the town of Milford (<-subject to change) Sunday morning March 10 and just go out and bomb around the area. Theres a pretty good variety of terrain out there. Depending on the weather between now and then the snow will potentially limit us, but I know @MartinDWhite wanted to try driving in the deep stuff so there will be plenty of opportunities for that.

Over all this should be wicked mild day of mostly snow covered dirt roads. But I would suggest at least a CB radio if you have one, a full sized spare, and a snow shovel would be preferable. Other than that, probably some lunch, water, and maybe basic recovery gear like a good strap and D-ring. I have a few straps, shackles, MatTrax etc, so no worries if you dont. Like I said, this should be a pretty mild day.

For those who want to look over the area https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9655571,-68.4020622,13.05z
As you can tell it gets pretty remote pretty quick with lots of little side roads.

why Milford? would think Bangor would be the place to meet up, gas up, and grab coffee, etc before hitting the road.. the Bangor mall is basically deserted on the southern half.. or theres the old bugaboo creek parking lot next to hannafords... it's vacant.. at least last time I was up there for work 2 weeks ago.

I have a 30ft 20,000lb tow strap, D-ring hitch, and D-rings 20,000 lb rated, small 10ft hook strap, and a snatch block from my old jeep (have a 9.5k tabor winch on it, but it's not road worthy..), hi lift jack, getting some snow chains..

I just threw Milford out cause its the same town and like 5 miles from where we get onto dirt roads. Doesnt matter to me though.

Lets set the meeting point as Harbor Freight in Bangor. Right off I95, gas station nearby etc.

Tentatively speaking, so am I. Subject to change based on the GF's capricious & mercurial changes in packing assistance requirements, though
