Is It Safe To Use Hand Brake Everytime You Park?

I know people use it during down or up hill situations but my job has uneven parking spots and if i dont use the hand brake, i always hear a click noise everytime i put it in park.

 

Of course (it must be Friday)... proper procedure is to engage parking brake before moving gear selection into park with the objective to avoid friction/pressure on transmission gears.

 

I don't see why not. Having driven a manual up until now it has been a force of habit for me. The only issue I've ever experienced was an over stretched ebrake cable, but that took many years of use and is a solvable problem.

Remember to do the reverse process when engaging the A/T... apply foot brake, shift into R or D, release hand brake... again, objective to protect transmission gears. Hand brake cable is a cheap adjustment/repair when needed compared to A/T rebuild.

Hand break is perfectly safe anytime. What isn’t safe is using the foot break on turns.

 

What’s next, a thread about if its safe to use headlights at night or turn signals when turning?

Maybe dealers should provide IQ exams, before selling cars ..

 

I never use my emergency brake unless I am parked on slight hill/uneven ground and the truck will rest on a gear.
