Good job O.P,but for most guys all the work and time involved is not worth the trouble, that compromised roof(even repaired) is a deal breaker ,and when you are all done its a salvage title 50% of what an undamaged truck is worth,so you will be underwater for sure, anyway good luck.

For Megs m105 try using their microfiber buffing pad. It cuts so much better than the LC orange or yellow pads. I spend much less time using the microfiber pads than any foam pads.

Also, while I have megs105, try Menzerna Heavy Cut Compound 400 if you can. It polishes out so you don't need to use a 2nd stage polish unless you want a super fine polishing for jeweling the paint. My only complaint is that it dusts more than other compounds.

He paid $8500 for the truck. I’m not sure what options the truck has, but I’m willing to bet that if it was undamaged, it would be worth at least $30,000. So he has $6500 to spend on repairing before he’s “underwater” using your idea of 50% value for a salvage title. Plus, he has been under budget on every single item used in the repair (per the spreadsheet on page 2 so maybe not at this point). Either way, he gets a practically new truck for super cheap

Right on. Cool project. I buy all my cars trucks wrecked and fix them myself. Save a lot of money and I enjoy tinkering also. I bought a 2018 OR that was hit in the front and I'm almost done fixing it. Only has 2k miles on it.

Thanks for all the replies and support thus far!

Here is an updated spreadsheet, I removed my estimates column. What I have paid is on the left, what I consider to be extras or luxury items or "above oem restoration costs" are on the right.

Sorry for the lack of updates, but there has not been much to report. I just haven't had the time. I did get a few things done. I had a bunch of codes that I was able to get rid of by replacing a camshaft sensor, and the engine wire harness. I now have no codes, but the thing still wont start. I am getting a noise from the throttle body as if it's stuck, so I have a new one on the way and hopefully that does the trick.

I know someone in the salvage business....If it has a salvage title you can send it out of state (like ca to Arizona) Register it temporarily in Arizona. Bring it back 6 months later and the Salvage title will disappear.

Just a tip, work in smaller sections. I work in about 2'x2' or 3'x3' sections at a time. Looks like you're using more product than you need as well. Just a few pea sized dots around the pad is enough.

Awesome Idea.... You mean like they did with a bunch of the flood cars after Katrina? This "someone you know in the salvage business" sounds like a real upstanding person.
