High speed gas mileage

That stuff will certainly make it easier like what a shop uses, but the old tried and true method of having someone pump the brakes while you loosen the bleeder valve is just a effective, just takes some time. They also sell cheap kits at the auto parts store so you don't need a 2nd person too

 

thanks....im gonna go to a auto store and look for a "kit"....i have vacuum hand pump but need the speed bleeders.....thanks for the tip on that.....it was a lot harder on the bike because i changes the rubber lines to steel lines and had air in everything.....i was really worried that I did not get it all out but i did.....had great brakes after that because I changed pads as well as rotors.....i was worried about ABS module because they are known to go bad it air get in them.....BMW loves to change the ABS module....$2500....i don't want to screw my truck up

 

I've made that drive with different results. High 16s at 80 - 85 mph, and only see 18 mpg at around 70.

I do have a lift and about 100lbs in the bed, but was really disappointed with Hwy Mph.

 

Truth. These trucks get crappy Interstate MPG. I like my truck and it works for what I do, but if I drove more than 5 to 10% interstate driving I would get something else. Yes, I understand that MPGs decrease as you increase your speed.

From 65 mph to 80 mph my ES350 drops from 31 mpg to 29 mpg. My 2004 Tacoma dropped 19 to 17. My 2016 drops from 22 mpg to 17 mpg.

I can live with it.

 

So I have seen people state they get 27 to 29 mph and I dismissed it as inaccurate as it was so far off from my personal experience. In the back of my mind I though maybe there is binding etc on my vehicle or it was the increased air drag of the lift.

 

I look like Brad Pitt and and can bench press 450.

 

I drive out west on I-10 every two weeks for work. My mpg is heavily influenced by wind direction. I got 20 mpg once with no wind going 83 mph. The last time I drove back into San Antonio I averaged 14 mpg driving 85 mph with a right front wind 10-20mph. This truck is very susceptible to wind.

Let me just throw this up again for anyone reading this thread thinking about buying a new Tacoma, so they are not disappointed they don't end up getting 28 mpg

 

Same here. I make the drive from Houston to west Texas every couple of weeks and i get 14-16mpg going 85. I'm usually off on my own though. If i can find someone to stay behind and draft the entire way, I'm sure i get get 18-20mpg

 

driving habits plays a big role.......My truck is 2016 TRD Sport 3.5L DCLB Nav, Premium and Tech.......have the TSBs for tranny and drive ~75/25 local roads and highway......I'm lucky.....use Costco gas if available and Shell.....but not all trucks act the same and not all drivers drive the same

 

Not always true... there are some performance issues tied to rpm. I had an Audi S4 that religiously got better mpg at 75 than 65.

 

With 18.7 million miles logged by 3rd gen 3.5l V6s averaging 18.45mpg it’s pretty fair to say that’s an accurate representation of the entire population and anyone on TW claiming upwards of 25mpg is an extreme outlier.

 

like i said, there are many variables in that sample......not all 3.5L V6s are the same.......and the drivers are different....altitude, weather, and section of the country you live.....this sample is at best skewed and not very repeatable because of the different variables that are not taken into account.......a extreme outlier, maybe but the sample size you show is not representative of normal driving and highway......dont see how you can not have number of gallons of fuel used to figure mpg.......all i see is number of fill-ups, number of vehicles and miles driven......i am no mathematician, but i can not figure what math is used for the mpg your charts show.......not trying to argue, but it does not compute in my mind......am i missing something here.........

edit: you said "claiming" upwards of 25mpg is an extreme outlier......i did not claim it, i showed it with several pictures.and have posted these in other TW threads as visual objective evidence of my claim.......again not arguing but just wanted to understand the math used in your post

 

It’s simply the average mpg of every Fuelly user with a Tacoma, yours included. The screenshot posted here didn’t narrow it down to only 3.5l engines so I went on Fuelly and got the numbers directly. It’s a sample of drivers from around the entire country driving in every road and weather condition imaginable.

 

I see 19.5 HWY and 17 city in 2018 4x4 OR DCLB... multiple repeats using mileage/gallon calculations. I haven’t verified the accuracy of the onboard calculator by comparison, so I can’t speak to that.

 

ok....then for clarification purpose and the sake of argument........why not show data from each vehicle listed by listing their particular miles driven and number of gallons used.....that way you have better imperial data to state average MPG on a finite sample and back up data

 

my on board computer is very accurate also.......i stopped awhile using pen and paper and just periodically check with pen and paper.....my computer is within =/- 0.2 since around 7500.......have 29150 now......
