Ahhh yes only on Tacoma World are you privy to such expert knowledge of all things off-road. How can you not love reading how much spacer lifts suck from guys whose true expertise most likely ends at changing a tire. Every option out there has its place. Quick run through the where have you off-roaded truck thread will put you to sleep :ohsnap: looking at trucks run down a dirt road with all there expensive suspension gear. Which is fine spend your money how you like, likewise someone opting for less expensive choice is fine. Why do guys feel the need to go guru :jerkoff: on this topic when I’d sooner believe they have no real insight besides what they’ve read or heard. First thing to consider is can you do the work yourself... can you install the gear :sawzall::welder: (whatever it is)? If no then imo you’re not qualified to go guru

These lifts do have a place in the world. What doesn't is the people who trust that $200 plugged into their strut tower is jiving with the other suspension components without checking themselves, or having someone who knows what they're doing, do it. These pictures floating around of struts with spacer lifts bent/blown at the lower rod of the strut is because nobody has bothered to check the bounds of their suspension to realize the bump stops aren't adjusted to catch at the right time. Aka before the strut reaches it's full compression. So while it is hunky-dory if you don't get near full compression, even accidental hangtime can cause the problems witness in the few photos floating around.

It isn't the cost that makes it quality, it's the engineering that stands behind it.

Everyone keeps mentioning price...you get what you pay for.

If you do a spacer; do a “top-plate” spacer. It will ride nicer...longer

I had an icon stage 1 kit installed. Haven’t really had a chance to run off road yet but it does good in the snow.

Y’all..it’s simple...at the end of the day it’s HIS truck, it’s HIS money, it’s HIM who’s going to be the one to drive it...not you. Let the man go with what he wants whether it be for looks, functionality, ride quality, what he can afford/wants to spend, whatever suites him best. Damn “lift experts” keep your judgmental thoughts to yaself!

I did. It wasn’t exactly planned out well cause rear shocks where completely gone. My leaf spring where starting to invert on me when my trailer was in tow. My boss is a huge fan of Icon. He set all of it up and I had to pay for half so I wasn’t really gonna bitch about it.

I heard that. That’s a score and a deal right there. Did you go with a single leaf or multiple?

Multiple and had them add the extra leaf to stiffen it up a bit more.

I’m a plumber we have a 6x10 and a 5x10 covered trailers. The 6x10 is the one usually end up pulling its set up for boiler, tankless water heater installs and some sewer work. The 5x10 is used for new construction/ remodel jobs.

Once Ya put that lift on, if Ya remove the lower air damn, you are gonna need to plug the lower control arm holes. I got my plugs from Ace Hardware.

Any suspension part will get damaged when it's pushed beyond its limits. A spacer lift has lower limits than the systems costing 2-5x as much. Spacer lifts aren't meant for hard, intense impacts and violent off roading.
Damage doesn't necessarily mean low quality or inferior parts.
Give me a Tacoma with a $6K lift.... I'll break it real quick.

True! Mine was howling like crazy but they DO have a TSB for that.
I was going in to get my stereo looked at back in 2016 and found out about the TSB. So I pulled my plastic plugs out and told the service manager about the howling and the TSB. They plugged the holes with these nice rubber gaskets. Just an FYI.

Yep, mine sounded like blowing into an empty coke bottle. I found the TSB for it, but since Toyota is 115 miles away and the plugs were under 5 bucks...oh that is not my photo by the way. I deleted my photo awhile ago and just posted the first photo I found of the plugs.
