Thanks - I just looked at your thread. Good info! These sensors are definitely OEM, it sounds like whether or not the OEM 4Runner sensors are compatible with the Tacoma is in question unfortunately. Ugh!

A legit tire shop has the reset tool. If you happen to be needing a tire rotation they will do the reset automatically.

This, as I mentioned before Discount tire charges $40 to do this and takes all of 15 mins time.

Thanks - I’m going to try and at least get someone to read the IDS and try putting them into Techstream myself, maybe I’ll get lucky and it will register but it’s sounding doubtful that 4Runner TPMS work with Tacoma.

I keep hearing this, but my DT cannot do it. The 3rd gen sensors are a different animal, at least out here. The last time I had Toyota do the reset, the guy had to let the air out of the tire to get it's location. The codes were already in the ECU from the first time they did it when they had to tear em down to get the codes.

I've done it three times now through Discount Tire in all different locations, IL and AZ. 2016, 2017, 2019 trucks. The 3rd gen sensors aren't different in different parts of the country...Sounds like the tech didnt know what they were doing, the sequence is a bit different, something like reset TPMS, plug into OBD II, scan each TPMS, plug back in or something like that, one tech it took 2 tries but still worked. No tear down whatsoever, swapped wheels, tires, tpms and dude just scanned device next to the tpms on the tire.

I didn't mean to say the sensors were a different animal out here. I meant DT!

What sensors did you use? If you are not using the existing factory sensors? The issue is that the OP was using 4Runner TPMS sensors on 3rd gen Tacoma. If the parts are the same then no issue but they are not the same. 2016+ Tacoma uses PMV-C015 but 5th gen 4Runner uses PMV-107J. The TPMS receiver and TPMS sensors must be compatible otherwise they will not communicate.

Oh lol, was a bit perplexed. No worries dude, on my 19, the one tech couldnt get it so he had to get another tech. Good luck!

I wasnt and didnt say I was, agreed if they are different its not so easy. All my swaps have been OEM 3rd gen sensors.

When I read your posts, there is a distinctive impression that any TPMS sensors would work on your Tacoma if you just take your car/truck to DT. I like DT but they still need to have compatible parts as they are not magicians.

Only how you read it, but ok, pretty sure it wasn't until later in the thread OP mentioned they were 4runner TPMS sensors and edited his original post (look at my first post when I quoted him, no mention of 4runner TPMS). Never said they were bud, obviously you can't take any TPMS and make it work with any ECU.

I was replying to Garyji's TPMS issue not OPs. Again, stock 3rd gen TPMS.

Sensors are OEM. I would never use anything else.

Confirmed that 4Runner TPMS will not work with the Tacoma. Now I need to figure out the cheapest way to get this work and purchase to new TPMS as the OEM TPMS are crazy expensive.

Why can’t you transfer the sensors from your original wheels? It is a lot cheaper than buying a new set of sensors.
