So for some time now I’ve been trying to figure out a spot place my pistol (Gen 5. G19) (while I’m driving), because after 30+ minutes it is felt in IWB.
I did not want to drill any holes or have a Velcro carpet holster, keep in Glove compartment, remove my on person holster, or a have in a vehicle safe I simply wanted a way I could have my pistol accesible and close to the steering wheel (within easy reach)
all the while not having it bounce around or in plain sight (to the outside).
I am fond of the magnets , cuz them sonsabitches are minimalist and fit anywhere with a flat/ near flat surface. And you can have them look very clean (not like I have it/ I just slapped this setup on like a bandaid just to get the job done). Plus if the are of the hard plastic, they won’t scratch your gun up.
One day I come across some 3M VHB (this shit is STRONG) at a buddy’s body shop and he was using it to hold his WiFi and cable modems ( about a foot off the desk, he wanted them to not be visible) to the wall behind the Camera Screen, I asked and he told me he placed them with the said product for over a year now and have never given in. Also it’s used to hold a rack for his paint guns , same story of the adhesive holding up , even with 6 paint guns on the rack. To me that was impressive , being as I know close to nothing about these adhesives. To make this long story short, I did some research and purchased a 35lb rated magnet, purchased some 5 yds of half inch 3M VHB and placed it in the truck .
I’ve held off a week before showing this video (was filmed 30 seconds after placing the adhesive) and the adhesive has stood the test. After 3 days the bonds become stronger. In regards to the magnet, it’s hard to pull directly off of it, but it’s smooth the slide the gun off.
( the magnet holds it in place very firmly and I’m pretty sure if I was to be in a roll over, the pistol would still be on that magnet).
Mind you about 70% of the magnet is making contact with adhesive due to the curvature of the panel, and it has a an incredible bond.
Updated pics soon when I remember to do so.
Below will be a link to the magnet on Amazon and The 3M VHB.
A video on the VHB from YouTube and a google link to me huffing and puffing while pulling the adhered magnet. ( Video was shown with multi tool because my neighbors are the nosy and look away when you look in their way type and wanted to prevent raising their blood pressure by having a pistol in their view. )
To remove the adhesive , a chisel ( to part the adhesive from the bonded parts ) , a dish sponge and rubbing alcohol will remove the residue and no marks or scratches will be left.

Trust me when I say I was contemplating on this. But I did not want any holes drilled whatsoever. Now don’t get me wrong if I wasn’t going to do the magnet route , I would’ve opted for this , strap holster that grabs the base of the top of the steering column, to the bottom of the panel. I personally find the under wheel more comfortable to me, being as I rest my arm in my lap.

I have to get around to mounting it. Never got around to installing it in my previous car. Might as well now, since I know I'll be keeping this one.

There were a couple seat holster/ covers, but thats all you can apply it to, your seat. Don’t get me wrong , but if I wanted to grab the magnet and place it in the garage, and hold up a pole saw rod, I can. Where as a seat holster, is limited to being just a holster. ( mostly and interior vehicle /home holster.)

Sorry curious Canadian here, I know that your plates usually tell the cop behind you that you have a CC, but when they approach do you tend to announce while they walk up it when its in a place like that?

Here in the gun friendly state of Florida,
You do not need to state that you are carrying a weapon on you, if it is not brought up, no need to mention it. Now if it is in plain sight as in my case, and you want to prevent any hiccups during the stop (decrease scaring the LEO) the proper thing to do is to roll all windows down, take keys out of ignition and place on the roof( extra measure I would do, not necessary , but I would feel safer if I was a cop) , turn on the interior lights if it’s dark out. And have your hands on the steering wheel. As he approaches ( whether he is a dickhead or not) .
Be respectful and inform him (once again if it is in plain sight) that you have a CWP and where each and every one of your vehicle documents / ID is located so he is not startled when you are reaching for them if you already don’t have them readily available.
