Shame about the accident . I am not sure how much that will effect value . Best bet would be to go to different dealers when you are ready to buy and maybe one will offer way more than the rest . I would figure out how my truck was worth before I went . Check KBB trade in value and try to Google and see how to take off for accident . Maybe someone will chime in here that traded a damaged vehicle .

Only happened once (hit and run in the parking lot), didnt show up on the carfax since I had the repairs done out of pocket after my insurance cut me a check.

You can try the KBB cash offer and see what ya get, but yep once an accident shows up on the carfax the dealer is gonna offer you less than KBB trade in value, think of it from their perspective, they are gonna have to sell/auction that same accident vehicle, even if it was minor it still affects the value / future sale, sucks especially since it wasnt your fault.

I had a 2009 crew cab long bed. 138000 miles very good condition. Dealer gave me 11,000. I asked for a few more bucks on the trade and the manager said "No way, you have a bad Carfax so we are wholesaling it" 3 days later they had it on their lot for 15,500. Lying dealership

FB6548CA-4350-4EE2-9F6E-8B90A281889D.jpg I did a quick buff and interior detailing before trading it. Had a crack in the windshield, took out the weather tech liners, removed my OEM bed mat, removed my third bed rail and extra cleats I purchased. 458A85BF-DA2F-4B3F-A1D0-B17BB4FEEDBC.jpg
It had 50,000 miles in 2 years. The brakes were not ready to be replaced but well worn. The original tires were well worn.
I loved that Prerunner but after 2 yrs in my new Tacoma I prefer the 3rd Gen.
Who ever said that !!! Wow I may be the only one that rather have my
‘17 TRD Sport vs my ‘15 2wd Prerunner
As crazy as it sounds the bigger tires, better interior, C937A798-3EBD-4C9C-AEB1-8F5E7B3156AE.jpg vs my 2nd gen outdated look.EF3B123B-0640-456D-B7B1-9DBF78B3A959.jpg ... huge difference!!!!
plus the sweet ass hood skewp !

Traded a 2wd SR5 base with 105,000 miles with exhaust leak and needed an AC recharge, pelted acorn roof. Asked if it had an accident and told them front end crash. Didn't tell them 12,000 worth damage. Should of been totaled. Didn't stop them from taking the trade. A weeks worth of haggling and got 12,000 off the last new 2018 Limited 4wd MGM. Told them Taco-boys don't like chrome and they new it. LOL I was shocked at how far they went. Talk about resale value! A Ford dealer was across the street with rangers on the hill. Going to drive Toyota nuts! All good competition. Love this truck going from the puddle jumper to this. It was a very well made truck didn't put hardly a dime in it. Nervous about all the sensors and HI_TECH on this. Thanks everyone for getting me up to speed on the new Tacoma's!20190216_173634.jpg [IMG]

I bought a used 2nd gen Tacoma for 17,000 and put 100,000 miles on it in 5 years and sold it on for $12,000. Essentially paying $1,000 a year to drive it. I bought my FJ used for 28,000 ran it up to 132,000 and 4 years later sold it for $22,000.

I never buy new vehicles always sell my cars private seller on Craigslist

My wife had an 04 Corolla with 180,000 miles on it, car max said $1,500 for it. I detailed it posted pictures and sold it cash for $4500 In less than 3 hours.

Take it to multiple dealers and get them to compete. If you have a printed out deal sheet with your trade at the best value take it to the dealer that has the best price on the truck and say I need you to beat this deal.

Don’t worry about the pictures of the accident they don’t care.

Some dealers just check the mileage and don’t even pull the car fax.

Not sure it's possible to ask a broader question. Too many variables.

However, it is pretty safe to say that unless the trade comes into play after all the dealing is done, one doesn't know what they were actually 'given'. The trade, along with the in house financing, is part of the shell/pea game that dealers play.

Actually this is true. 3 ways to know. Sell it yourself, talk to your insurance agent re 'value', or speak with someone like a CU re financing value. Now with the insurance and financing you'll find that there is a lot more depreciation that has occurred that most folks around here like to think, but in general it's still less than other marquees when comparing apples and apples.

Where the value retention shines is upon resale. But that's due to demand based on the popularity of the truck. Again, a great (the best?) reason to sell it yourself.

That's right . My girl friend had a Escape with 70k on it and tranny light came on . Took it to Ford and the shop found and showed us a lot of metal fragments inside tranny . You could only drive it 5 or 10 min6at the most and service tranny now light would come on . $5000 dollar repair on a 12
