Awesome...I *almost* bit on a Sport fairly recently, but convinced myself I wanted an OR. But then I started reading about the suspension—great for off-road, maybe not as ideal for road driving. Also, not seeing many OR’s with MT in a color and at a price I like...

I tested a Sport with MT and thought it was pretty good. The black cladding on the wheel wells of the OR looks pretty boss. Yes I know one can do aftermarket stuff, but I’m not much of a modder.

I’ve had a couple dozen vehicles in my life, 80% of which have been manual transmission. So that’s my preference and one reason I wouldn’t be so interested in the other manufacturers or in an SR5 or 4R.

I imagine some of you are sincere about the Ridgeline. I much prefer the Tacoma looks, but yes the Honda checks a lot of boxes for my needs except the manual transmission. (I have personally put at least half a million miles on Honda vehicles.) And no Cav Blue or Cement.

    Like, so many.
I’ve had a Sport and an OR both 3rd gen. I think from your post that a Sport might suit your needs best. Any thought to going SR5? Keeps the cost down since you don’t care about the bells and whistles.

No off road, and questioning the OR suspension = Sport.

The answer to the OP's question is in the OP's original post. Literally.

I went with Sport, manual. My off roading consists of mostly fast fire roads (rally style) and 90% of the time I drive on pavement anyway. I'll never take it rock crawling or anything extreme. It would have been a waste to get an OR and not utilize it's crawl control system etc. Plus aesthetically I like the painted flares and the hood scoop. I swapped out the all season tires for A/T's and now I am satisfied. Being a life-long Honda fanatic it was hard backing away from the Ridgeline but I absolutely need a manual and the styling of the Ridgeline is too SUV/Car-like for my tastes.

OP, I was in your shoes back in 2016... was all set on an OR, but couldn't find one (1st month the '16 came out). As I really thought about it, I switched to the Sport since 100% of my driving is on pavement. Zero off-roading here in concrete South Florida (jealous of the countryside some of you guys get to wheel in). Anyway OP, like others have said: Buy what YOU want, it's your hard earned money.

P.S. Still love my Sport, 3 years later.

It’s almost amusing how people react to questions in every forum..buy what you want/need and good luck. You can always put air bags in for towing if required. It’s a shame they don’t offer the XREAS as an option on the sport model. That would make your real easy.

I think that’s probably the first time that’s ever been said here on TW.

Except the face it has, no one can even get erect looking at that ugliest mug in toyota line up. Anything but limited, when it comes to T4R

Thanks for the replies. Y’all are making me feel better about going with the Sport with the MT.

I’ll have to drive them a couple of more times before pulling the trigger. Oh, and wait until I find out how much I will be hurting around April 15. (And no, I will be paying, not getting a refund.)

My driving is pretty much 85% road and 15% mud and trails and hauling a 16' utility trailer with 2 full sized ATV's. Of course without the locker, I find this truck as nimble and capable as my old CJ but a lot more comfortable in highway situations and a ton more fun in some pretty hairy mud situations. Although not for everyone, the best of both worlds is the Sport.

I've been trying to figure out what's the advantages of all time 4 wheel drive? I was thinking it's like AWD?

So why not call it AWD? I could careless but would ultimately stop the confusion. But it is what it is.

i just don't understand why guys want to always ask others what truck they should buy. go drive them all and see what one you like best. if its down to an OR or sport then get an extended test drive in both.. take them on the highway, curvy road..etc..etc and see what you like best. and neither one is going to handle anything like your sports car. they are trucks and handle like trucks...

i tow a 3700 pound empty trailer. closer to 5000 pounds full i'd guess with an offroad and it does fine. cruises the highway fine, stops fine, haven't had any problems getting up any hills yet. so a 2700 pound trailer should be no probles at all... it gets 8mpg towing but thats par for the course...
