TRD Pro rims

Hello,
I have an 09’ taco with stock 16” rims and would like to upgrade with TRD Pro rims 17”. I saw some post on ebay but I just don’t know if it’s legit, some people I have asked that to be aware of made in Ch***.
I would like to ask if these are ok.

I didn’t click on the link but good chance it’s an actual Toyota dealership listing on eBay. Sometimes they’re cheaper to deal with directly as it cuts out the seller fees. I was considering these for my truck but ended up with the fj trails team wheels as I wanted to stick with 16” since tires are about $15 each cheaper for equivalent sizes. Also 16” is a little better for airing down. If you ever were to consider the 4Runner brake upgrade then 17” would be the way to go.

Toyota is definitely not an American brand. Hopefully I did not offend you about things made in China or if I did I apologize. Some people probably had a bad experience on things bought over there, I personally didn’t know and was just warned.

I’m sure what OP was illuding to was non oem knock offs. The key word to watch for on eBay is the word “style”. People tend to see the key word, in this case “TRD” and Miss the whole thing “ TRD style”. If I’m not mistaken these are made in Taiwan or something like that. Point being is they are an oem part.

Whole truck? Not even close. Furthermore, China can make quality product when spec’d and paid for. Toyota and their OEM suppliers have stringent QA/QC measures in place. However there’s a metric shitton of knockoff garbage that comes from China that looks good, but is horribly designed and manufactured. Both are fact, not conjecture. Some no name Chinese eBay wheels that have a catastrophic failure as a result of poor design or manufacturing will be a regrettable purchase.

 

So where do u think ur truck came from, just curious?

 

Not from China. Not that China can't make quality stuff, the problem lies in IP theft and knockoffs. When it comes to vehicle safety, like rims, do you want to risk your life? If something were to happen, do you think the dealer you bought from in China will care? Assuming that business even exists.

 

with warranty. that’s big. When I bought my fakelocks one of them was machined wrong and the ring wouldn’t go on... dealer took care of it no sweat. this is my vote OP.

 

My 2015 is 60% US/Canadian content. When design, engineering, etc is factored in it is 70%.

3rd gens are still in that range. Most of the non-North American content is Japanese. Since this thread was specifically about wheels, my OEM wheels were made in Canada. Not China.

 

Just to set the record straight, I never buy China knockoff shit, because it's just that. I love my Tacoma and think that they are the most dependable vehicles on the road, that being said, where do u think your truck came from? It seems I've asked this before with no avail...

This is an issue across industries. Counterfeit products from China that are, as I noted, often dangerous due to design or manufacturing quality. Items that are structural in nature (which would include wheels) should be carefully considered.
