What ever allows you to see things better unless you have a mandated procedure telling you what to do

Most Aluminum Wire welding looks really good then were talking most likely outside the range of those welding in the living room.

Got mine on today too. Fitment was ok, some decently large gaps that needed filling but overall happy with it. I ended up just draining and putting in fresh diff fluid after all.

Yeah. Welded with fluid in and changed right after. Fluid was nasty as hell.

If there's slag you drag. Slow down your travel speed. Flux core isnt the easiest to learn on but they can lay down nice welds @teamhypoxia

Are any of the auto helmets on Amazon that are under $100 worth buying?

It depends just what your using it for .

It sucks for the most I have never come across any distributors willing to give out a demo hood . I know I have a collection of hoods that just plain sucked over the years

Once in a great while with your welding being done with the parts on the bench not bad

It comes down to the head gear if it is not comfortable no matter how good the lens your going to not like it.

Some liked the Harbor Fright hoods for a low cost Auto hood.

Keeping the cover plate clean so the sensors can see the arc

if your using a high end hood and want a cheap one at home it seldom works .

**Years ago when welding Galvanized Truck cabs it was nice having a Respirator as the fumes came from the other welder on the other side of the cab up through the door posts down to where I was.

If your in a poorly vented shop with a few other welders making sparks they can be great

Working for the most alone I have not used one for years .

Then I have customers that just tig weld stainless as clean as could be using the Miller Powered Air -Purifying Respirator

These are all personal things what works best for you only you know .

Not exactly what you’re asking but harbor freights Vulcan helmet is very nice. I upgraded from their cheap auto darkening to this one and it was worth it. Very comfortable and easy to see the puddle as well. If you save the coupon on your phone they can scan it in store. Or I think you can use it online as well.

I went with this one (Antra AH6 blah blah)
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BWAEYV8/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Its worked fine but is definitely nothing special. One of those "it gets the job done but I wouldnt want it for more than a home hobby guy" type thing.

Improperly yes. I dont shave so its not a "good" seal. But this is just used more for grinding than welding. I go between just N95 3m face masks and an actual 3m Half Face respirator. I use the N95 ones for all sorts of stuff though.

I use this Miller LPR-100 respirator when grinding a lot and when welding.

There's two different filters you can buy with this mask. One is the regular filter for all welding fumes and the other filters that and organic vapors too. I have the organic filter. I have been mildly poisoned when cutting a shitload of 3/8" stainless plate at work with a plasma cutter and it sucked. Stainless gives off hexavalent chromium fumes when welded or cut with a plasma cutter.

Is there’s a benefit to a respirator when working with mild steel? That’s all I ever use on stuff.

Breathing in any fumes from welding and metal dust from grinding ain’t safe for you. Great to use a little half mask like the miller one that @deeezy posted so you can wear it under your hood. I use mine all the time as well

Trying my hand at some stick today.
Glad I got the multi process so I could try different things.
I thought "stick" referred to the electrode but now I'm thinking it probably refers to what happens when you try to start an arc

I've never tried stick before. Seems like it'd be fun to try buy I have no use for it since MIG works for all my hobby stuff.
