Even at the sub 2% i think financing makes sense

Bought 8 months ago, 20k down and after TTL my loan was 17k. Paid it down to 6,500 now and hope to pay if off before I reach 1 year of ownership. At 2.9% it’s not a ton of insterest but I’d rather use my extra monthly cash to pay it off and save the interest.

 

Perfect scenario.. I would take 0% all day long and finance every penny if available to me.

 

The biggest lie people tell themselves when it comes to new car purchases. I got 0% financing, no you didn't, they just baked it in to the total price. I'm sure some of you had a celebratory dinner afterwards think boy I got one over on that finance manager. These are the same people that think eating at Applebee's six times a week and paying with a credit card is saving money because no groceries, no dishwasher to load, and the airline miles are making them rich.

The real question is...did you miss us?....

 

I don't consider myself rich, but I could have easily paid cash for my Tacoma, however I would never tie up $40k in any new vehicle. The $40K cash is much better used making returns elsewhere, for me anyways. I prefer to lease which allows me more cashflow to invest my money. I chose Tacoma because at end of lease I can likely sell it and get some $ back from it to again put into other investments.

FAR from the case with my GT3 though. It’ll be a long time until I actually own that one.

 

I bought a new Duramax smack in the heart of the last recession. 0% interest and huge amounts off msrp. I think I did pretty good on it

 

Yah, calling BS on this.. You either got a good deal or not. If you paid thousands over MSRP or even dealer cost, then yes, they got you good. If you worked a good deal and got 0% financing, then it was a good deal.

 

Not really I see people here are still claiming they paid zero percent interest, claim they're banging tens, have fully funded investment accounts, no student loans, but claim a 4 cylinder SR was all the truck they were ever going to need, but somehow bitch that ever since the installed Wildpeaks their MPG has dropped by 2/10ths and the wife is getting a little wild about how the truck's MPG is cutting into the Ruth's Chris steak night budget which really means Sizzler.

About $17,000. I make double payments a month. Could have paid in full. Wasn’t comfortable doing that due to being off work weeks after September 2018 purchase for 7-9 months due to surgery. Im dying to go back to work, I don’t sit still well!!

So true. Is not everyone in here Peter Lynch or Warren Buffet ?
Bottom line is it even a good bet to have your house paid off ? If you had kept the loan at a ridiculous low rate, and put the money in spydrs for the last 12+ years you would have had a hell of a lot more money than just party bragging rights.

Of course it’s a good idea. Add up the interest of a 30 year mortgage. The problem is most people buy far more House than they need and are debt slaves most of their lives

 

Good plan, if

1) you follow through (ie, don't get distracted here with mods) and
2) your job and the bonuses stay intact.

Seems like some people in here are self conscious about their finances. I don't come in her to brag about my "financial superiority". I explained that I still owe quite a bit on my 5 month old truck and why I'm okay with that due to my own personal financial decisions. Do whatever you want with your own money, I don't care.

Also, for those that still think credit cards are bad for everybody, I have made quite a bit of money just from getting cash back. If you're smart about it and pay off your entire balance every month then it's worth it for future planning. There's a reason some people get to go on free yearly vacations because of their credit card benefits.
