You commented in the other thread about the dude who had his engine filled with 6Qts too much due to an inept line tech at Toyota. He had to have his shit towed back.

Now, you start this thread for being a little bit over.

You see how this reads to us?

In all seriousness, a qt over probably wont cause any ill effects besides some mpg loss. But if you paid to have it done probably just as easy to take it back tomorrow and have them refill it to the correct level

If I had the dealership doing my oil changes, I would have checked my oil after reading the 6qt. thread.

    Just saying.

Like others have said park it on a level surface and check when it’s cold. Drain slowly until you’re at or just a hair above full. If the dealer were to do this the truck would likely be hot and if they drained it to full level it may end up being below full when it’s cold. A little overfilled is probably ok but st a certain point too much oil can cause foaming and that leads to bad things happening to the oil and ability to lubricate.

Bro it may not be just a quart. We need to check the owners manual to find out if an inch over is a full quart or not :goingcrazy:

Well I assumed less than an inch over the dot is a lot less than 6 quarts over, and I didn't want to hijack his thread. lol

I just check mine before I leave the dealership because it helps me sleep better at night. Kind of like the guys doing the a/c drain mod. LOL!

My good friend at Toyota says these kids go to school and pay so much money for nothing. There not being taught the right way. There told for 30k and six months later they can work for Nascar and rebuild their own vehicles. And once they actually work on vehicles they realize they really don't k ow anything.. But they were told there the best and should get paid alot of money to do it. Also they only last a month and there either fired or leave. I also see it being a mechanic for so many years.

Yes I hear alot of this. I worked with this young kid right out of UTI and he was trying to replace a seat trim and was sweating having a hard time. I asked what he is doing and he said trying to remove a seat trim.. I asked didn't they teach you the basics of interior removal and how not to scratch it he said they were only thought engine repair and the engine was not even in the vehicle but on a stand. You can't learn to work on a vehicle that way.

kind of similar...I may have told this story here before but here it goes again...So up here we go to Arby's, and once in a great while I go through the drive through and park in the parking lot to eat. Just to avoid the crowds inside. Well this one day I/we park in a spot on the side exiting the drive-thru window and I observe a "Truck/car" detail shop cleaning a lifted truck. While I watch the gal is on her phone most of the time and the "kid" is power washing the truck...no big deal until I see him open the doors and power wash the inside of the doors! WTH!! I cant remember if I was alone watching this but I should have recorded it and set a pic on the guys seat. All I could see is the first time he goes to turn on his radio or roll down his windows and nothing works...I watched this "kid" spray on the whole inside of the door at least 10min on each side...

Step one: just do it yourself.
At the dealer the truck is out of your sight and you have no idea what is going in it. Likely the Toyota stuff, but what if they ran out of it, or whatever brand they happen have the big signs on the wall in the service drive up (Pennzoil, Valvoline, whatever). What’s stopping them from going to Walmart and buying cases of Supertech or whatever $1 a quart stuff they can find in a pinch and putting that in yours and everybody else’s Toyota. Think they would charge accordingly? Good luck with that. But it’s ok (to them), because you never saw it happen and it’s still likely, I would hope, the correct weight.

Also, my truck is stock height, I can easily change the oil on it without jacks or ramps. Want another inch or two of clearance, drive it up on a few 2x6s. It is the easiest vehicle I’ve owned to get to the drain and filter.

    Step two,
this is something I’ve done with every vehicle I’ve owned and changed the oil on. Works on airplanes too. Drain the oil and change the filter as normal. On refilling, look at what the manufacturer states as the quantity to add for a change. Underfill what the say by about a 1/3 to 1/2 a quart. Start and let it run at idle for a few min to heat and circulate and verify no leaks. Give it another few min to settle after you shut it off, then check it. Willing to bet you are almost right on or just a hair under the correct level. The reason this works is you will NEVER get every drop out of the pan and that undrained oil will add to the quantity you do add. The few min running at idle a little low will harm nothing.

Now rest easy as you know the level is correct, and you know what went in it.

    I just had this conversation.

Some oil always stays in the engine so 6.2 Qts doesn’t always drain out. If you’re not burning oil and change with 6.2qts every change you may eventually over fill it.

    Ok

    I totally made that up

    But, it sounds plausible

Change your own oil. Put 6 qts in. Check oil. Drive a few hundred miles. Check oil on cold engine. Check and adjust. Don’t trust.
