DIY backup camera relocate with minimal fabrication

I recently added a HC bumper with swingout, but didn't like the spare mounted because it blocked the backup camera (I've become so friggin' dependant on that camera), so I knew I had to move it. I just needed to fabricate a bracket, and reroute the wiring to a new location. After some test fitting and video checking, I choose to put it on top of the bumper, between the bottom of the tailgate and licence plate.

I actually took a few pictures during the process of this project, so I could post them up here for anyone interested in my method.

After getting the bends all the way I wanted them, I wrapped the entire thing in electrical tape (but forgot to snap a pic before mounting it).

Nice. Does it hit the tailgate when lowered? Have any photos of what that angle looks like thru the screen?

 

I looked at that location, but believe I didn't put it there due to clearance issues. I assume yours clears as you don't have the stock bumper.

 

Nope, the tailgate clears it just fine. The only viewable blockage I have is at the top, from the swingout. I'll snag a pic tomorrow.

There wasn't much room, but it clears.

 

Great idea. There have been times I would have liked to use the camera with the gate down.
