Ovtune 90 octane?

Has anyone here used 90 octane fuel with Ovtune? 90 is the highest where I live, and I’m not sure if there’s nothing to gain... Appreciate your input!!

 

Use the 87 tune and that will work fine with 90 octane

 

Assume you're somewhere at altitude? Could be wrong but I believe you can treat it like higher octane if so.

Air density has more to do with it. They say for each 1000 feet over sea level you can add one octane point but this information is on older engines. You can monitor you knock values and timing adjustments and try to run the 91 on 90 tune but if your Knock Correction Learn Value dips or the Knock FeedBack Value is consistently over the base line of -3 deg then you are not seeing any value of running the higher octane because the ECU is retarding the timing which pulls the power you may have added with the tune.

Really the big benefit of the OVtune is the transmission tune. I run the 91 currently but Ill be moving to the 87 performance tune and just enjoy the transmission not being retarded anymore.

 

With the 87 tune, do you find that the shifting is smoother?

 

100% smoother

 

Smoother on the base(mpg) tune. Performance tune it can be aggressive depending on throttle position
