What's the difference between my truck and a TRD from the same year? I'm not even sure if Toyota had a TRD label in 1998. I have a 98 extended cab 3.4, 5spd, 4WD. Owned for over 10 years and I still enjoy driving it. It seems to be completely stock (except I'm running 31x10.5x15 tires) and has skid plates. It's labeled as a SR5. Other than large tires vs stock tires, what other equipment would have been on a TRD?

I think the biggest option was the towing and rear locker added to the TRD models

Yeah, TRD package started in 1998. Gave you the rear diff lock, Bilstein suspension, skid plates, stickers, fender flares, and 31x10.5x15 tires stock. On 2000 models the TRD package also included larger mirrors. Towing package wasn't included, that had to be optioned separately.

All stock, those are good numbers. I have a minimum of 450# of stuff added on. Then include another 250# of gear/food for my road trip, plus another 220# of passenger and it adds up fast. Add me in with a full tank and it’s over 1000# easily and that’s not including the mass of 15” steel wheels with 33s as well as a full size matching spare. Plus I drive like a madman after the first 4 hours. Hours 15-16 usually are pretty chill and net the best MPGs. LOL.

It wasn’t easy to do. I ended up getting mine from a batch made after the group buy debacle. Little bit of luck and a little bit of sleuth work.

That’s not bad fuel efficiency on your rig all things considered. I had a stock 2wd Frontier with the 3.3v6 I did a wife and kids cross country trip with the bed full of camping gear. I’ll bet I never got above 14 on the highway

Thanks! Yes, you're correct, good eye. Original tailgate, but I de-badged and installed the vinyl lettering. James Dean Creations, JamesDeanCreations.com, made the tailgate kit.

6318468F-3311-43EA-ACC3-5E0D10F68786.jpg Quick update on the Tacoma, took the shell off and swapped my old crusty lights for some new housings and put on some black door handles. The last of the chrome will soon meet it’s demise.

At 214k miles my clutch is on it’s death bed and I’m considering replacing it with either a Marlin Crawler Heavy Duty Clutch or an OEM replacement. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Yall, Jacob.
