If there was a mark on the battery then I’m sure it hit it and that’s the reason it came off. It falling off, wouldn’t mar the plastic on the battery. Takes a bit of force for plastic to mar other plastic. Regardless it’s still a shitty design. And if a memeber had his fall off and it not hit anything that’s a great deal of concern

I don;t disagree, but the adhesive was not ripped you could tell it let go then got caught on the battery.

    Seems a wee bit pricey

Just had this happen to me wheeling in Ocotillo this past weekend. Had to get to camp 100 miles away so I cut up some mountain bike tubing for a gasket and by shear luck the cap screwed back on over the hole. Added some oil since half my oil was dumped in my wheel well and skid plate. Made it to camp with no issues or loss of oil surprisingly. Decided to test my luck and drove it home about 180 miles towing my trailer. Made it home! now I have to figure out how to fix it, since I don't think I can spread my luck after that ordeal.IMG_3551.jpg IMG_3554.jpg IMG_3556.jpg IMG_3557.jpg IMG_3553.jpg Anybody have any other suggestions on a epoxy? Trying to avoid getting killed at the dealer.

Whatever you do, dump the oil out and flush it with new oil at least once to get the crude out/dirt out. Mine happened and we caught it immediately.

Poor design because the filler neck is simply epoxied to the valve cover. No bolts, no screws, just plastic on plastic, two seperate parts held together by an epoxy.

And if you want to get real technical, check my picture on the post above. I have one battery.

Same issue happened to my buddy and I. We were able to use the positive battery terminal rubber cap from the Genesis dual batterry kit as a valve cover plug get us home. (Death Valley was a bit muddy...)

I have no affiliation with Genesis but their dual battery system has caused two issues on my buddy's Tacoma while we were out on trips together, both of which caused fluid leaks as follows...

May 2018. Genesis Dual battery system installed.

March 2019. Oil filler neck broken due to Genesis Dual battery system too close to engine. (We plugged the valve cover temporarily with the positive terminal cap cover, at least that part of the system was useful).

July 2019. Hole in radiator due to cracked wheel well support in 3 places from the weight and mounting of the Genesis Dual Battery system.

What do you think happens when you add a larger heavier battery?

3rd Gen owners need to be careful about the aftermarket dual battery system mounting, and the size and weight of the batteries. I didn't have any issues with the off grid engineering dual battery system, but I used smaller batteries.

Agreed jamming larger heavy batteries in a spot not designed for it comes with a chance of issues.

It doesn't look like the filler neck problem is due to dual batteries. There are plenty of other reasons for splitting the battery locations but not this one, other than simply accessing the cap. There should be at least some minimal mechanical connection beyond just some glue.

A shortly fill spout from a Lexus V8 (had it on the shelf #12185-38020) does the trick. That long spout makes for an easier oil fill up, but it's too long for rough action, IMO.

The toughest part (not tough) is cutting off the baffle, otherwise it bolts right on.
