Pyle is usually regarded as the lower end of quality in the 12v world. When I installed rear cams I would mostly use alpine and Kenwood cameras. But they have a ton more features and cost a little more.
Maybe @destin_meeks can chime in on a quality flush bullet cam we can use as he’s in this field everyday.

I can but I don’t have any designs like that yet.

I typically go for Echomaster cams. The pcam-220 could be a good option for straight back viewing. Runs about $60

Or the pcam-360 for an adjustable camera, to tilt down towards the bed a bit. Runs about $120

*edit* I scrolled up a bit and see lots of talk of dash-cams so I may need to actually read what you’re looking for lol. I saw “flush bullet cam” in the 3rd brake light thread and in my head I saw the cameras in newer dodge trucks that look into the bed

    Something like this

The pyle has a 1 Year warranty and i would probably throw a little silicone on it just in case anyways but i do that for everything.
Also, the Pyle is only $23 and will connect into any monitor or set up someone wants to use.

Looks pretty universal to me, and is under $60 on Amazon at the moment. @mesojdm trusts @destin_meeks who is very solid (knows his stuff) in this space. Stew is amazing and works hard to meet everyone's desires. However, he can not really design a housing to fit every possible camera choice. It makes a lot of sense to choose a single reasonable, reliable, and recommended camera to design around.

    Just my .02.

Who am I to argue with that! If Meso is willing I can ship him a camera to make it. I can get the Cables ran and will have it ready to test by the time he can get it printed!

So, if we do use that camera, what dash cam setup are people looking at? I don't know of any that would take an RCA input.

I have a pioneer double din Radio that will take a RCA Video in. That was another reason i found the Pyle camera is because they sell a 5" monitor that is universal for only $70 i believe.
That litle monitor can still be used with the chosen camera thoough

Doesn't that replace the head unit though? Also, does it record it like a dash cam?

Yes I have a 2nd gen with the stock head unit replaced. No dash cam.
I would assume Meso would make the actually housing, buy your own camera, and figure out what works best for your set up. Im sure theres kits out there that can make it always on and recording though just have to find what works best for you. The RCA video in is almost universally accepted

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I was looking to get something that worked with a dash cam kit, but I might have to revise that idea.

If you buy a Dash cam kit that covers the rear view mirror, just check what input the supplied camera uses and if it is RCA Video cable, you can swap out the cameras easy

Hmm, would you recommend a complete DVR kit? I could then see them having enough RCA ports for at least two cameras.

Are you producing them still? My oe one finally started to leak and I’d hate to buy another one of those pos...

Edit: ok I figured out you’re making them again. How do I get it line for one, how much, and how long?

Some thing like the pcam 360 sould work well for me unless the 220 has a decent rear view with very few blind spots. My original reason for wanting this is to merely eliminate the rearview mirror and use the camera instead but others would like it to be wired in with a dash cam setup. Personally I think itd be cool to be able to switch between rearview camera and a grill mounted trail cam but that can be easily done with a switch if the display doesnt support it (probably maybe sort of lol)

Also quick question. What's the flexibility/compatibility when it comes to screens and screen ratios and such? A wide angle cam for the back would be ideal (140° to 170°) I think and I'm not sure how that translates to definition and screen ration and such

    Thoughts?

They are both 170 degrees. The pcam360 is just adjustable up/down/left/right.

As for screen compatibility, any screen will work really. The cameras will all put out a SD image (480p) into an RCA-style connector.

If I was planning on using it as a rear-view mirror, I personally wouldn’t use anything made for backup cam use. I would want a much higher resumption camera and a much higher resolution screen.
