After finding out the local tire center had installed the incorrect lug nuts on my TRD Beadlock wheels I was shocked to see the price Toyota wanted for the proper lug nuts. (Part# PTR27-35090 - cheapest price shipped I came across was $137). After some research I found out McGard manufactured the lug nuts for Toyota & you could purchase the same lug nuts without the Toyota branding much cheaper (including wheel locks). Here is what I came up with:

    McGard 65557 Chrome SplineDrive Wheel Installation Kit (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) - For 5 Lug Wheels - $74.98
McGard 65357 Chrome Cone Seat SplineDrive Lug Nut Set (M12 x 1.5 Thread Size) - Set of 4 - $18.98

    Total: $93.96

    Here are some pics:

What makes these trd wheels any different than any other aftermarket wheel where different lug nuts are needed?

I'd like to know too. I keep seeing people mention they require special lug nuts.

    What's so special about them?

The spline drive lug nuts that Toyota recommends fit into the lug nut openings nicely. When I first had my wheels/tires mounted the local tire shop used a socket style lug nut. The socket would rub the inside of the lug opening & scuff the paint whenever I loosened/tightened the lug nuts. You don't have this issue with the recommended spline drives. The link I posted above several years ago was to help people save money over purchasing the Toyota branded lug nuts.

Update: Disregard whole post. Clicked on the link and noticed they have color options. This is exactly what I was looking for, thanks for an awesome find!

I realize this thread is extremely old, but maybe you’ll see this.. first of all, heck of a deal you found there. Nice going!
Do you happen to know if McGard makes this same set in black or black chrome? I am interested in replacing my beadlock lug nuts with black/black chrome lug nuts. Thanks!

Yes, that should be all you need. Just make sure you select the correct finish since they offer them in chrome & black.
